I figured I'd just start one thread where I post all the drivel from my experiences with Squibble. No doubt you've all seen it and read it before and there are countless threads about it. But hopefully it's still amusing.

First, as the title alludes, I have a second joey on his way. He needs a few more weeks to grow, will be neutered, then he's coming home with us to meet the good doctor and have a nice home.

Speaking of home, I purchased a large 'flight cage' made from white powder coated iron. Looks nice, very functional, and Squibble loves it. With his new silent running Wodent Wheel in place he seems pretty happy.

My wife and I finally got around to trying tent time. We don't have any toys for him to use in the tent yet, but we brought in some snacks.

He alternated between defensively standing in the corners of the tent looking worried to bounding (seemingly happily) around the tent and climbing all over Angela and leaping toward the walls. He would run into his pouch and dig around then come leaping out, or play hide and seek/peekaboo. Pretty funny. He didn't show any aggression, and I think the experience was productive. We'll definitely be doing that again and hopefully regularly for awhile.

braid up some fleece,& hang one from the top to the bottom, & also from top to sides (doesn't have to be all 4).
They didn't play much w/toys in the tent. They were just loving to run around, climb, & jump from person to person.
Of course, for me, this was all many years ago, reading the thread made me almost miss those evenings.

sounds very productive. As mentioned, you don't need a whole lot of toys, but a few are fun. You can bring some in from their cage, so it will have their scent on it, that helps a lot.

Today Squibbles has his first visit with a veterinarian. I have a feeling he is not going to think highly of the vet after this...

The good doctor is undergoing his neuter today!

I keep my eyes on the local Craigslist for any special gliders. I found one yesterday! Veruca is a year old female. Very sweet and loved by her previous owner. I picked her up last night and she spent the evening in her cage next to Squibble's cage. They were interested in each other and it was cute.

Squibble is such a little turd. I hope he eventually becomes more friendly. He hissed at Veruca twice last night while we were still up. She was not the slightest bit impressed by his antics but she seems very even keel and sweet.
In fact, she's already let me pick her up, albeit with a testing bite to make sure I knew she was not entirely approving of my moves. Not a lunging nasty bite. She was on my hand, looked down at my finger and went CHOMP. Not too hard, like a firm pinch.

Squibble and Veruca have been next door neighbors for several days now so we thought we'd try introductions. Although Squibble is still a PITA (he won't actually come to us or climb onto a hand yet), we let him out of his cage and directed him to her cage. He went in and they spent about 30 minutes together.
Interesting behaviors.

Then we got him back in his cage (no easy feat) and they spent the next hour barking at each other. Pretty cute.

Tent time tonight.

I took both gliders down for tent time last night while the rest of the family was out. They were both pretty sleepy and it took a bit to coax them out of their pouches.

Initially Squibble seemed a bit more inclined to come to me. Veruca ran to the corner and started climbing the mesh to the top of the tent. An aside here- her nails are LONG AND SHARP, which I discovered a bit later.

Squibble decided to go hang out in the corner but Veruca decided my back was the place to be. She came down and spent most of the next 20 mins on my shirt, either scampering around up and down my arms or sitting quietly. Her nails are so long that she scratched me up pretty thoroughly even through my clothes.

The family came home and all 4 kids and Angela came into the tent. The gliders seemed to be having fun. Veruca climbed around on everybody while Squibble mostly kept to himself with occasional forays onto a leg or sleeve.

Afterward, I decided to put them both into his cage. That went well! They spent the night in there together and today they've been sleeping in the same pouch all day.

Veruca loved Squibble's large wheel, which has sandpaper in it. Hopefully this will take a little of the edge off her talons. LOL.

Tent time again tonight this time with just my daughters and the gliders. They're down there now. Veruca is just so mellow and easy. She doesn't mind being picked up by hands. Squibble still doesn't like to climb on people or be picked up.

And, if I'm being totally honest, I was not prepared for the poop factories that these things are. I thought they'd be different than rodents (which literally continuously poop) but they pretty much are the same. Almost non stop! And pretty smelly. LOL.

The amount of "glider gifts" I have to clean up varies with what time of day I let them out of the cage - that's why I've gone to almost exclusively morning play time. There are still occasional leavings, but it is greatly reduced from the amount when they have just woken up.

Well, poop does smell a bit while wet... The advantage I see in the smell is you can find it. When dry, no smell really...

Since they are waking up after hours of sleeping, it's best to let them "purge" in the cage. But makes it difficult to catch for tent time at night.

Stef is right, morning tent time is more pleasant. Maybe a few drops maybe a gift or two...

Once I tried morning play time, I preferred it for that very reason, plus it was easier to get them back to cage.

By this point though, I don't have to chase my babies around. If they want to come out, they'll be at the door or front of cage near the door and hop out on me almost immediately. Also, due to my current living arrangements (limited space), I do play time right there in my bedroom, just in front of cage. I can pretty much contain them to that area for the most part, and I'm getting pretty creative with setting up some places for them to jump/glide to and from, with me being their central hangout and landing/launch post of course.

I do have some ideas I'm going to be researching further to create even more safe, exploratory options for them. So far all I've been able to do is hang fleece throw over my door at play time, I lay another fleece on the floor in the play area, I attached a couple of items to the outside front of cage, and I have curtains on my closet door and a robe hanging nearby that Lulu insistently loves to jump to (especially the robe).

Once Squibble is more tame I'm sure it will be easier to do morning play, but schedule wise that may be difficult. We'll see smile

I also did a bit of research on their potty habits. I think I can probably manage it better knowing that they tend to get it all out during the first ew minutes of waking. We noticed last night that after about 5 mins they didn't seem to poop at all the reset of the time in tent.

Oh, also based on research I did find that my wodent wheel was very stinky. I scrubbed it and that helped a lot. I think what happens is Squibble wakes up and heads for his wheel, where he promptly poops and then squishes it onto the sandpaper. :/
