So, it's summertime, it's getting hot, not looking forward to August (Yeah I don't look forward to January either- )

We are traveling to Jackson, MS to work. We found an RV Park next to a reservoir, with a private boat ramp, a pool, tennis courts, you name it...

Hubby pulling our rig, I'm dragging the boat (- well, it's a Gheenoe: canoe on steroids with 8hp 2 stroke motor) Hubby will spend hours fishing in the mornings when we get off work. I will be cleaning up, sewing, and getting ready to go back to work that night.

We plan on seeing what there is to see while there... So it will be kind of like work/ vacation.

I'm kicking rocks, wondering what everyone else is planning to do this summer?

Have a great time, Dawn.

We will pass through Jackson on our way to Destin, FL with 5/6 grandchildren. They are so excited to see their cousins again this year, our van may be the one floating on air

You're workamping, too! Your summer sounds like a lovely combination of things you love to do, with things you need to do. smile

We're all about the working vacation, too - at this gorgeous mountain campground in Leavenworth (WA) until Labor Day. I'm a "ranger", welcoming guests, taking reservations and that sort of thing. Dave is working hard in maintenance and housekeeping.

But when we get days off, we're out rock hounding, treasure hunting, and riding Dave's motorcycle with his dogs in the side car - exploring this region of amazing beauty with huge evergreen trees, soaring rocky peaks, and rivers large and small at every turn.

Wow. There is sunshine in WA?

sounds like you guys are getting lots of fresh air!!!

I will think of your nice weather while I wipe the sweat off my face and take 3 showers a day...

Thank you for the visual! I feel cooler already!!! We will have a heat index here in Joplin, MO area in the 90's... today and tomorrow. .. :tant2: Oh wait. It takes too much energy to throw a tantrum... shakehead

Karen wave north at me when you pass through Pearl, just east of Jackson... We will be working on the Sam's Club there...

Dawn, your heat index was 90? Today, here in MD, our high was 93, but the "real feel" was 96, lol. I checked the high in the town I lived in AZ, and our high was higher than their high today, lol, but that all changes tomorrow. We'll drop down to 80's and AZ will be up in the 100's (I still miss AZ though).

Oh, my bad you said in the 90's. I like the 80's, preferably around 81 for Summer temps, lol. Once it gets hotter than that, it's too hot for me, and the #'s don't even matter as far as I'm concerned. For Winter, 50 is about the lowest I tolerate, lol.

It was steamy here in Wisconsin, I spent the day in a 15 by 10 foot trailer with an air conditioner, but boy was it hot in that porta potty.

Feathet, I bet it smelled good too!

Sometimes guys have it easier when it comes to that.

So Comerade, Is Stef keeping you too worn out with all that maintenance work??? Ya know, cleaning, fixing stuff, and what not? No good stories??? How are all the fuzzbutts? Have you done intros yet?

Hi Stef, thank you for keeping in touch, otherwise we might think Comrade curled up under a tree and a bear decided to help him heal his leg... :roflmao: But really,

We were at 86 yesterday with index to 92...

We were a bit cooler today, having plenty of sunshine! I think rain is in the future forecast.

We had just wrapped up a pleasant streak of sunshine mixed with some clouds (the white fluffy kind) and gentle to gusty breezes with highs in the lower 80's, perfect Summer weather! Prior to that we were drenched with rain, rain, and more rain, for days and days. Now the humidity is really setting in with higher, muggy temps frown. I really do not like the Summer & Winter temps here in MD. But, at least I'm not going in a porta-potty (holds nose) lol.

Anyways Dawn, I hope you enjoy your upcoming trip.

Ok, we were supposed to leave this morning, but nature decided to dump buckets... Missed our travel window due to circumstances beyond our control... We had a leak in the house... Had to wait till it dried to fix...

But we are ready now... going working, going fishing...

We made it safely to Jackson, MS yesturday. Since today was Father's day, we went and did some shopping, got our fishing license and took the boat out. It was mid afternoon so the fish weren't biting (I did catch 1 small channel catfish ), but did see two gators.

Just got up from a nap, getting ready to go in to work tonight... Show our smiling faces and do a meet and greet... Hubby already planning another fishing trip. He has to " catch" at least 2 fish to my one today...

Well, if you're looking for things to do... willing to drive a couple hours? (Do you get weekends?)

Mobile, AL has a South Dakota-Class battleship (USS Alabama) open for tours. The 'memorial park' surrounding it also has a small air museum & a Gato-class submarine (USS Drum) you can walk through as part of the admission. http://www.ussalabama.com

Stennis, MS has the Stennis Space Center where you can sometimes watch them test rocket engines.

Ocean Springs, MS has The Shed BBQ & Blues Joint... best BBQ in the area. The opened a 2nd location in Gulfport, MS which would be a little closer to you. http://theshedbbq.com

At the Biloxi-Gulfport, MS border, there is Andrew Jackson's waterfront home (reconstructed, anyways... hurrances have been a little hard on beachfront structures).

Just some ideas, lived around Gulfport for a number of year... quite unwillingly.

Hutch, those places sound intriguing! I love history, it tells it's own tales, and anything mechanical. I love old ships, subs and airplanes. (Well, cars too). On our way in to Jackson, we found a agricultural aronautical museum. We will go back to see it too. Hubby said they are just old crop dusters, but I still want to see. I want to tour some old plantations too.

I have seen the T Jefferson place both pre-and post Katrina. The brick fence took a beating. They didn't do tours did they?

Thank you for sharing some cool places! Gives us something to look forward to. When it cools down this fall. Right now I'm suffering in this humidity... I feel puffed up like a marshmallow!

Would love to hear more and other stories of vacations!

Well I'm not taking a vacation again till October, so it will be awhile for me to have any stories. We're pretty much settled on Blackwater Falls St. Park in WV. We'll be staying in a cabin I believe, but may book it next week, just need more details.

Sometimes ya gotta just go for it!

We had a surprise visit yesturday! My son, his wife and 4 grandkids crashed in on us. They were on their way back from vacation in Florida and the kids weren't able to play in the Gulf due to the rip tides (their first ever trip), so they detoured 2 hours to see us. And got to swim in the pool here.

It was fun trying get everyone a fair share of the floor to sleep, but we survived through it all. Sad to see them leave...

But was a nice surprise, one we and they will have memories from...

Oh, first question out of grandson's mouth was:" Did you leave the gliders at home?"

I said " Nope, they're upstairs sleeping" I think it was his way of breaking the ice, and be able to check on them personally. He loves my girls...

Kids can be conversational artist at times 😀 I think it's because they are so honest, but yet experiment with wording. How old is your grandson? My oldest granddaughter is 11 now, she loves animals. When I got my sugar gliders, she was very interested in them, but one gave her a face hug and she became a little nervous around them. She has a cousin though that wanted sugar gliders, when he saw me after he heard I had gotten a boy glider he asked "after they fall in love and have babies, can I have one? He was quite disappointed after I told him my boy was neutered and there wouldn't be any babies.

My grandson will be 9 next month. He has had several face hugs, and enjoyed everyone of them. His little sister, has only had one face hug and now loves the girls from outside the tent. My grand daughters who are 12+ love to handle the girls. Face hugs to them are cool. All the little girls have experienced it, and did not appreciate it. I think it's the scratch and slight pain they can't seem to anticipate very well. But they all love their own fake gliders, give themselves face hugs and love their stuffed gliders very much.

That's so sweet! My youngest grandchildren are 3 & 4 yrs. old. They haven't even seen my gliders. I really don't get to see any of my grandchildren (all girls) often anymore. My youngest two, I rarely saw before anyway, but now probably won't see them at all.

Anyway, enjoy!

We have been blessed with 14 and 1 more on the way. We have them strung from Kansas City KS, Columbus OH, to S. Carolina.

The little ones 5 and under don't get to do tent time, but they have petted them a time or two. Both my girls tolerate "nice touches".
