Hi everyone I need some help on whether my 2 males can be together as cagemates or not. I got Cannon 1st he was about 6 months old and already had been bonded when I got him and he is about a year and half old now. I started to do research and that he might need a cagemate (but didn't do enough research to learn a female would b better to get) so anyways that's when I got Charlie and he was a baby OOP 8/31/2016 not really bonded at all. I tried to read as much as possible about how to do the introduction process. After already having Charlie and trying to learn the into process is when I figured out I probably should have gotten a female but it was too late so I tried to do things it said. I got Cannon neutered, switched pouches back and forth, put cages next to each other ect. After this stuff I tried putting them together in the tent and I was really scared not knowing what to expect but it looked like Cannon was biting Charlie's eye so I separated them hoping to just give it more time. I kept their cages right next to each other waited couple months and tried again. Charlie just ran around the tent scared as Cannon chased him. Let me also add that even after I got Cannon neutered he still wants to mark everything all the time. So I have been trying to rehome Charlie and either trade him for a female or rehome him and find a female so I can have cagemates. I just got Cannon a new cage a couple weeks ago and had them moved apart but they seemed to miss being beside each other so I moved them back to beside each other and noticed that Charlie clicks and hisses when Cannon is across from him in his cage. im just wondering now if I didn't give them enough time in the tent together and getting scared too quickly? Just wondering if maybe they actually can be cagemates if I'm not doing the intro correctly or if I should continue to try and find a female instead? Please help I just want to be able to have a couple cagemates in the same cage.

Are they both neutered? If so start swapping their stuff again.

As you are doing tent time with them trying to do introductions, are you doing this at night?

Introductions should be done during the day, preferable early morning.

Here is a link to my article on introductions: How to Introduce Gliders to Each Other.

Both boys should be neutered before intros. What I mean is if one is neutered, they both should be. It takes a week or so for the testosterone to tone down.

They should be introduced in a neutral area. Clean sleeping pouch, a clean cage, the works.

Don't know if this will help but I'll tell you what I did recently.

I had my cages for my two male gliders next to each other for a year before I did the introductions in the tent. One of my gliders is neutered, the other is not (the vet said he was too old). I just put them together last week and they seem to be getting along, though I'm still monitoring them closely. I also bought a new cage that neither of the gliders had been in before and transferred them in there as soon as it seemed they wanted to stay together in the pouch. And I bought them all new cage set, water bottle, wheel, etc. It gets expensive but I felt I had to do it to ensure a happy union.

I would keep trying and give it more time with cages next to one another and more tent time. Have you tried carrying them in a double pouch with separate compartments? I think The Pet Glider has one or you could probably find one on etsy. I didn't use one, but I might get one anyway in case I need to separate them.

I hope it works out!
