Hello everyone, my wife and I have finally decided to get a new.pair of sugar gliders since Dexter passed away on us a few years back. frown
We found a local breeder only a few miles from our house so it was perfect. Two beautiful Leu sisters. They're OOP date was 9/2 so we still have a few weeks left before we can bring them home.

I've already Went ahead and built they're cage. I went with the popular pvc cage, mainly because I wanted to be able to build it myself, and I honestly love the look. They're home is 5' tall x 3' wide x 2' deep, I wanted it to be big enough just in case we end up with some more friends wink.
My wife is in the process of making all the cage sets and toys for the girls, we've been looking up non-sew, and hand stich sets, but my wife as already asked for a sewing machine lol. So hopefully we'll be able to make plenty of our own cage sets, and toys are easily picked up/made from fabric/dollar stores. I've also went a head and picked up the 12" silent runner wheel, I see a lot more people with the raptor wheels, so I feel like this might be our idea for a second wheel.

I haven't found many tutorials for making your own bonding pouches, but I'm sure a quick search in the forum can get me what I need smile

Once I can figure out how to upload pictures on mobile I can post some pictures I have of the girls, and they're cage. But for now I just wanted to get back out there, and be able to share how excited we are!

Welcome back to Glider Central!

I sew also, the machine I have is 14 years old and still going strong. A good tight stitch and the right needle are very important along with a good machine.

I haven't looked here for bonding pouch turorials, and my first two weren't the best. I was commissioned by Janet Glider to make an emergency set. She was very particular how she wanted her bonding pouch done, and sent me an old one so I could copy the work. I also made her a cage set for which she sent one of those too so I could copy. I learned many things about that experience and understood why bigger is better.

I have never tried a no sew bonding pouch, but others have. I don't trust tying knots that gliders may be able to undo. I wouldn't recommend them.

Please keep us posted on your cage progress and if we can help you with anything else, please ask away.

Love the pics of your babies!!! They are adorable!!

I forgot to mention, I can share my instructions patterns/ pouch sizes if wife is interested.

:welcomegc:

You did a marvelous job on that cage :thumb2:

I imagine pouches aren't going to be a problem at all for you.

I found this link for you on How to Sew Sugar Glider Pouches from a member in our Archives.

I'm going to move this thread to our Housing & Accessories Forum.

Thank you everyone for the welcome! smile

I'm in the process of looking for a sewing machine for the wife. Two days off work and nothing to do but wrap/sew fleece, and she says she needs one. Lol smile

I think once our wheel comes in I may have to rework some of the pvc to be able to mount it. It comes with a cage attachment, but I'm not so sure the PVC holds up like cage bars. If anyone has any experience with this, I'd love some ideas.

We're going to take a tip to the dollar store this weekend and see what kinda cool stuff we can find to fill the cage with.

We'll also be having another visit with the girls this weekend, bringing over some more fleece with our scent for them. We were over there last weekend and our breeder was asking about training. I was unaware there was much of a training process in Joey's that young, and links to this information could help too. smile she's also got her gliders on the HPW diet, back when we had Dexter we used BML. Is this much of a transition? I'd rather be able to go re-up on their food locally then have to depend on shipping.

Thank you everyone!

I transitioned mine from BML to Critterlove over about 3 days. They will be stressed comment in to a new environment. Will you breeder give you a 33 day supply?

sounds like you are on top of everything but the wheel. I sorry I don't have personal experience with a pvc cage, but from what I understand, you made need to add to your frame a bit of support to attach the x mount to. I think it's 12" × 12"

May I suggest a Babylock sewing machine from Nancy's Notions. They have a very nice beginners sewing machine for about $100.00 plus what every shipping would be. Just google them.

Had another visit with the girls today. They're definitely getting more adventurous! I got a few more pictures from the breeder of the girls and the parents. smile The wife and I are super excited but we still have a few more weeks to wait. Halloween will be 8 weeks oop, we may wait a few longer just to be sure they're ready to leave. Everything I've read says anywhere from 8-12 weeks, and it varies from glider to glider.

We received our wheel and c-clips this week. We ended up getting the 12" silent runner and it holds up with the mesh pretty good it seems. We'll have to watch it when they run to see if I'll need to reinforce it at all. 100 c-clips was not enough so the next order will be of 500 lol.

Just a little progress update.   :leu: :leu: thanks

Well we picked the girls up this weekend! Sorry for the lack of updates, but there has been much to report untill now.

Luna is definitely more outgoing and ready to take on the world compared to her sister. Willow would rather just hang back and sleep.

Our breeder sent us home with a pouch, the first night the girls slept in regular size pouch my wife made, the next night they slept in the XL pouch she made, and this morning it looks like they're headed to mom and dad's pouch. I'm wondering if they might be starting to miss them? This is what our breeder sent the pouch with us for, but they seem like they're adjusting fine.

They've been going crazy every night with the new cage, playing and jumping and pulling out every toy we have in there, they've also been adjusting to the BML more than I thought they would. Which is great.

Things seem like they're going great and I can't wait to share more stories here. Sorry I don't have any pictures with this update, but the next one will be worth it!
