Hey all so my girlfriend and I just got a new female sugar glider about a month ago. Have been thick into the bonding process and are getting some progress. Slowly but surly. Letting me touch her more and coming up to me more. Wanting to learn the best ways of bonding to get close to her and then we want to get a male once I have got the process down and all the info is helpful. One thing that bothers me tho, when I am doing the walk around method with them on you l, my glider licks my neck and then bites me.. so any info on that would be great as well. Any tips or tricks as well!

Thank you!

If she is young, she is tasting /testing her surroundings. Also if you have a mole, freckle, birthmark, or scratch, she is grooming it off.

Since you're bonding, try "tssk", or "sht". It's glider talk for I don't like that. She may ignore you at first because the translation is lost. But it will help her learn your talk to her in the future. You can push her nose away, our pick her up, and put her down on the other side.

Some gliders become fixated on a spot. And will go back to it.

:welcomegc: & the madness of being a suggie slave. There is a lot of wisdom to be found on these pages, & from those who lurk, linger, & post there. You've come to the right spot!

It would help us to know how old you girl is & are you the first owner. My personal experience is starting from joeys. Much like toddles, they want to stick everything in their mouth to taste it, including you. As this point, she's not sure if you're a barkless tree, a hairless oversized glider, or something even scarier! As Dawn said, tssk'ing or redirecting is a good start, & relocating to another part of the body if that doesn't work.

The biggest piece of wisdom I can offer is patience & realize that every interaction helps, even when they're sleeping or in their cage. Talk to her when you go by, if she's near a table you can eat or play a game with your lady so she can see/hear you, etc. Last piece of advise, small set backs won't ruin your relationship; she'll get over it & move on if you do.

There is no reason to wait to get the male if you're delaying due to bonding reasons. It might even help her settle in if she has a friend with whom to cuddle & play.

If you ever find yourself looking directly up at your glider, keep your mouth closed.

Why do I have the feeling this is from personal experience? You forgot to mention coffee flavoring.
