I started out feeding HPW diet and then thought I had switched to the BML but watched a video today and not what I am doing.
The ingredients are:
a cup of the HPW dry
2 eggs-hard boiled
Baby Cereal Oatmeal
Honey
glider vitamins (blueberry flavor) from Suncoast Gliders (I think)
Baby food vegetables-sweet potato
baby food fruit
baby soy milk replacer formula
purified water
Then today I see I am way off.
I also leave dried mealworms in the cage and pellets from Exotic Nutrition
plus yogurt drops and fruit drops
So, how do I fix my errors? I want to switch to the plan from England (not sure of the name) that has the whey, and seems fairly easy.
My gliders do have good coats, bright eyes, are active but young and I want them to grow old with me so please help!
I do not know how to switch them to what they need to remain healthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey there! So I'm not sure which diet you have been using, but doesn't sound like bml. However, have you checked the link to diets and read through those? They have a list of diets and you can try checking the ingredients and prep that are easiest for you.

Maybe someone who's more familiar with the diet you're looking for will come on here and maybe be more help. Sorry I wasn't able to help much. But wishing you luck with finding the right one!

I don’t know much about what the diet you have them on now is. I believe the site I use is bmldiet.com . That seems to be the recipe that I found most consistent online if you are looking to go the BML route. I would say a slow transition would work well into whatever you choose, especially since they seem to be doing ok.
What would you like to move them onto? Check in the diet section and we can help you more from there!!! The people on here are great with these sort of things, I swapped my girls to BML easily with help from here!

This is not BML and it isn't HPW.

Where did you get the powder your using?

Any of the powders sold by Exotic Nutrition are not good. They were sent out by a glider owner for testing and what is printed on the bag for what is in the bag and nutritional values do not match what is in the bag.

If you click on the highlighted word "diet" it will take you to the data base with all the diets.

I personally use Critterlove Plus along with the recommended Salad mixtures. It is the most used diet in the world and there is continued testing on the creators diet as well as a couple people who also feed the diet as recommended.

There is more variety in the Critterlove diet plan than there is in BML, which is very strict on what fruits and vegetables you are allowed to use.

You can check out Critterlove diets at Critterlove.com

This is the vitamin I add. Suncoast Sugar Gliders
Blueberry Fortifier Complete Vitamins and Calcium

I have been buying the Exotic Nutrition HPW then adding the other stuff. I got the recipe (without the HPW) off a video on youtube from a "glider professional." She called it a modified BML. That said, I didn't see on our site the one from England-used by their vets, according to the youtube video. However, I am nervous so I am going with BML for now and will order most of the ingredients on line.

What did you do to make the change? I apparently am not on a "real" controlled diet and will go to bml.

The actual BML diet doesn't require HPW. All ingredients can be bought locally, although in England, some may be under different names...

Click on the blue word diet, it will take you to a database and the BML recipe is there. Any questions on some of the ingredients, we can find answers for hopefully Bourbon will see this.

Claralice, it appears that somehow you have mixed at least a couple, if not more, diets together. Doing that you throw off the ratios of all those feeding plans and how they were intended to be fed. This means your gliders are not getting what they need nutritionally. They may, in fact, be getting way too much or way too little based on the way these are working together.

It is very important to click on the blue word diet so you can look at the individual diets, choose one, and most important feed it exactly as it states it is to be fed. Do not add or subtract any major portions of the diet, especially the vitamins if these are added. The Critterlove diets are pretty much all inclusive except for the salads, so they are different.

To avoid health issues with your gliders, it really is necessary to choose a diet and stick with it.

One last question. I plan to keep frozen fruit and vegetables for the tablespoon each for their daily F&V. Why is it not okay to mix it into the liquid part? That is how they currently get their fruit and vegetables.
I am just not understanding why that is not okay?

You must prepare the nectar portion separately if that is how the recipe calls for it. You can then pour the liquid (nectar) over the f/v if you wish. It is strongly not recommended to blend f & v into relish or smoothie, there are parts of the food gliders do not eat, they spit those parts out. Their digestive systems may not handle those parts of foods.

They also like to pick up individual pieces of f/v to eat. Some pieces they like, some they don't. Trying to get them to eat all the f/v by pouring the staple over them doesn't work because they are smarter than that, and usually won't get them to eat more of their staple either.

If anything, you are going to find pieces of f/v covered in sticky staple flung all over your wall and outside the cage because they are frustrated it's all over everything.

You also will not be able to tell which f/v they truly like or don't like.

I sure hope all that made sense rofl

Yikes! I'm so glad I was lurking and saw this thread! This is what my local pet store sells. I saw HPW and figured this was what everyone was referring to. I've been researching what to feed my gliders (I haven't picked them up yet). But now that I know this I'm thinking I'll just go the critterlove route.
