Hey yall! I'm new here and figure why not introduce myself! My name is Jessica. I'm a homemaker, which is just a pretty way of saying I stay at home why the hubby runs off and works. I have a daughter who is one named Jaina. I also have a little sugar glider named Day. In my spare time I like to crochet and make things our of yarn. So I started making some sugar glider things and signed up for the site so I could talk to other sugar glider craft makers and of course, to get to know other sugar glider lovers!

We haven't had our glider for very long. Just about a month now but she's doing really well on the bonding. The only time she screams at me if when I wake her up during the day lol. I like to spoil my little glider with lots of toys and love! Right now she's the only one we have because she was a gift to us for Christmas but when we have the money, we plan to get another young girl to join her!

Anyways, I think that's all for now! Thanks for letting me join and I hope to meet you all!

Hello and welcome! I am new as well and glad you found this site. I think you will enjoy it and it is also a great place to learn! I have had gliders for just a couple of years but this is my third set. I have always kept two. My current two are Caramels! I have no idea how to crochet. Be sure and read the different forum posts! And glad to have you! smile

Just a note on your crocheting for your glider, please don't take it the wrong way, but yarn isn't safe for sugar gliders.

You can use fleece, or that fleece yarn.

I used to crochet for my gliders til I got a sewing machine. Someone taught me how to cut the fleece so it was one long strip.

Can you explain what is unsafe about yarn? If it's the holes that crochet makes with its double and triple stitches, that's not a problem for me. I do Tunisian Crochet which is a very tight stitch that doesn't leave gaps between the stitches.

Yarn itself is unsafe. It's made up of smaller strands spun together that can fray, and catch nails, wrap around fingers and cut off circulation. You can cut fleece into long strips and use a larger crochet hook.

If it's washed and dried in a machine, it will cause "pilling"over time with will also catch nails.

The type of crochet stitch you want to use is fine.

Edit: Your work is beautiful. I still have an issue using standard yarn.

If you are in fact selling these, you may want to post a disclaimer about keeping nails trimmed.

There is a fleece yarn:

Your crochet is a lot nicer than mine, but I wanted to share what I made a couple of years ago in fleece yarn.
Bernat (?) Is what I used:

:welcomegc:. Glad to have you here!

I have a couple of frogs that were crochet with fleece yarn, can't remember from whom I purchased it. I also think they are in my storage unit, not sure.
Dawn, love that pouch thingy!

Thank you all for the wonderful compliments! I think I will make a comment about keeping your sugar glider's nails filed in the maintenance sheets I will provide with the items. Its good to keep their nails trimmed anyways if you want them crawling all along you. Learned that the hard way haha.

The only problem I have with fleece yarn is the bulkiness of it. I personally like smaller hooks with small stitches. I would have to use a rather large hook to crochet that yarn together. Those require an 8 mm hook! Which is huge for me! I'm usually around the 5 mm hooks.

That is a good idea for everyone who sells Glider Items, however, not everyone is going to even read the instructions much less follow or take the time to do them. Clipping alone will leave rough edges that can get caught and pull until they are worn down smooth. Some owners prefer to file the nails IF their gliders will be still long enough but that doesn't work for all.

I admit I don't crochet or knit, however, we do have members that do. If you would, please allow them to tell you how they use the fleece yarn without it becoming too bulky or using huge hooks. The fleece yarn will indeed make a safer product.
