I wanted to try and give the gliders a more natural habitat rather than fill it with fleece and so far i have some eucalyptus branches

I thought about putting some wheatgrass in the cage and since it grows pretty high i figured it would be safe from them messing around with the dirt BUT just in case i might put some 3/16 mesh over the tray so they cant get to the soil/ dirt

I have 0 experience with growing things and thought maybe some other members have done something similar

I did want to be completely organic and avoid any chemicals

I don't know what they would do, I would make it a supervised playtime item, not something permanent in their cage.

Doesn't wheat grass require full sun? You would have to either put it outside all day, or get a grow light.

Unfortunately, it's difficult to duplicate a natural warm climate environment for them.

They potty and poo on everything, except right where they eat, and their pouch, once they are out of the joey stage.

You can offer them safe wood, like apple, redbud branches that haven't been sprayed for insecticides.

Or natural cork. Otherwise, it's artifical plants without wire in them. I have used plants for fish aquariums before. They are easy to clean, and some are beautiful.

We can only duplicate artificiality, unless you want to construct an eco environment like what you see at the zoo. For gliders, it would have to be pretty big. Like an avairy. But those don't promote human bonding.

I am not sure, they sell wheatgrass at petstores for cats in small sizes and there are no lights around it, but regardless i have a full spectrum bulb in my room that i use for myself for vit d and the cage is near the window

I wasnt too worried about the natural climate, just wanted to give a more natural habitat, i figured their poop would be fertilizer for the grass

Their potty/ poop will make the dirt smell. It will sour the dirt, and kill the grass. I raised rabbits outside, and their poop makes great fertilizer. But it's not just the poop. It's the ecosystem they create with bugs and worms, rain, sun that break down the poop. I also raised Canadian night crawlwers under their cage. They helped keep the ammonia smell at bay in the winter. Great for fishing too!

Yes i researched and found out not all poop is the same lol

I did manage to grow some and have it in the cage and they seem to be enjoying the roots, they munch on several of them, they arent exactly playing in the grass yet though
