Tuesday is the neutering day. I have everything prepared: blankies, two bonding pouches, two travel containers that the pouches go in for travel/protecting them, a container with their after surgery meal, water container with water from home, and lastly a human to transport them. My spouse, who has not handled them but has fed them will drive them to their appointment as I have to work. I wanted to be there but we have new patients and I have to work! Any advice to help him with the trip home or how I tell him to watch for any biting or self harming behaviors. I thought about just bringing their tiny containers to my job after they get back but really they will probably want their cage but I am so worried about this and about them.

Are you taking food away from the night before? That isn't necessary, but a piece of fruit after surgery is ok.

I was told by the vet tech to remove food and water. Is this incorrect? I will call the clinic tomorrow to verify.

Explain to them that their metabolism is so fast that food doesn't have to be removed. I don't with hold food, but I do take it away first thing in the morning. They are good. Most vets don't do surgeries until mid morning. Call and explain that to them.

Hi, They are having their surgery first-8am. They do not shave them. Lastly, it is actually not till Thursday-I have been so nervous and focused, I had the wrong day. Glad I called today! As far as food, they asked that I remove it at midnight.

Should I move their pouch lower in the cage? Is there any prep I should consider for them-maybe take out the plastic toys and only leave the flannel-is it okay to leave the wheel?

Whatever you do, don't change things. They will want familiar things around them that smell like them. Taking out their toys and wheel will cause stress. They can have their wheel. Anything that takes focus off their surgery is a good thing.

Rescheduled due to flu and no ecollar. We are doing a reschedule. I decided I didn't trust myself making a strong enough ecollar so I ordered two different sizes on line from a supplier that has for rats, flyers, squirrels, etc
