Hi everyone I am new to the site this is my first post. I have had my 2 gliders for almost a year now. I adopted them when they were about 6 to 8 months old and managed to establish a pretty good bond. My female got pregnant and the joeys have been OOP 3 or 4 weeks now. I was concerned at first that mom wasnt producing enough milk so I changed her diet a little and started supplementing a couple times a day in the meantime. She seemed to be doing better and both have been seemingly good parents. They come when they cry, take turns coming out to eat and play (until recently, now they both come out at the same time.) But they still go back to check on the babies. This week they have been ignoring cries more which I have read can be normal as they become older. My main concern is that I am seeing the mama crab and squirm and "tssssss!" when the babies try to nurse and also when they try to ride on her back. Yesterday I noticed both babies have a small nip mark on their face by their nose. Its not too awful but still sad. Ive been applying neosporin to heal it. My question is, is this the beginning of rejection? Can joeys been rejected this many weeks OOP? Should I pull the babies and start hand raising?

Another issue is I am pregnant with 1 week until due date so I am very concerned about not being home for a few days with the babies and also if I had to hand raise it could prove challenging. Sorry for the long post. Any advice is appreciated!!

Welcome to GliderCENTRAL wave So glad to have you here.

Now that your joeys are the age they are, this is probably more the beginning of reluctant weaning than rejection. It is time for them to learn to eat what mom and dad are eating as well as exploring their surroundings. It appears you have a couple of little ones who are not so sure they are happy about this process rofl

Your mom and dad do appear to be excellent parents doing exactly what you want them to do. The nips don't appear to be serious, but of course, you don't want them to get any worse.

I would suggest putting a little more food in for them so there is plenty for the joeys now. Mom is just trying to get her little ones to try solid food. That sound you are hearing is her trying to get them off the teet so they will be hungry for solids. She will let them nurse a little but not as much as they are used to having.

Congratulations on your own baby, and please try not to stress yourself over this. Just watch them while you are home to make sure the nipping doesn't get worse. We will watch this post carefully for any replies from you.

Thank you all so much I feel a lot better now not having to worry and constantly check up on them all through the night! I will add extra food as well as a of different things they can try. I didn't realize they were ready foe solids!

Also I tried to post some pics but file manager keeps saying the files are too large so I will try to figure it out so I can introduce you all the my glider family!

I struggle with this myself.

I use Dropbox and sometimes only copy the link of pic to this page instead of using file manager.

If you use a site like shrink pictures to reduce them to under 500x500 (I frequently use 300x300), they should load without any problems.
