So the vet I first took my gliders to quoted me $650 for a neuter. No doubt that was probably done using a laser and I can only assume that the waiting lounge for humans there would feature a fully stocked wet bar flanked on either side by a rotating sushi conveyor belt and a texas de brazil style grill featuring every kind of meat in the world. Not being that flamboyant myself I inquired to one of the members of the golf club I work at who used to be a vet and it so happens that he has an exotic pet clinic that his friend runs twice a week at his office. This guy only charged me $165 but it was a shave and some stitches and a cone that came off in less time that is takes you to blink. Well I've read all of the warnings but I simply could not afford the laser.

Everything went really well actually. the vet was super nice and friendly. He put the collar on while Herky (that's his final name now) was under but as soon as we got in the car he had it off and was going at his surgery like there was no tomorrow. I should mention that his cut was super glued first and as soon as Herky woke up he had the glue gone and cut open in about thirty seconds which seemed to surprise the nice doctor.
anyway so now i'm contorting in the car trying to mitigate the mess and figure out how to put this collar on the biting machine. Nothing worked and Herky soon passed out so I just let him sleep on my lap and when he stirred to check out his area I just nudged him with my finger. Well somewhere along the freeway Herky woke up with a bang and decided to explore my face, this made driving unpleasant. I had to pull over and spend a half hour trying to get the collar on without receiving a life threatening injury. Over and over I got it on and over and over he took it right off.

We finally got home and I put Herky in the tub and tried a few more times with a glove on to help me. I finally got a good connection and it's been on for a couple of hours now. I feel horrible for him, he is sooooooo miserable. I actually have him in a tiny cage like one by one by one and I'm going to keep him on the other side of the bed just in case.

I did have a question though. has anyone ever put collars on their gliders before introductions? would that reduce the chance for injury and maybe shorten the fight time? I was just curious, it's either that or tiny little boxing gloves.

Gees, never had to go through all of that myself. Well, except for introductions, I did have the one where I intro'd Ollie to Lulu & Skadoosh. I can say, I didn't use a collar, never thought of it, and not sure I'd be brave enough to try putting any on either one of my gliders (at the time frown or now still, only if). I was not aware of tiny glider, boxing gloves, hmmm, maybe would have been more traumatic for me trying to lace those on each one :roflmao2:

Wishing Herky and you the best of luck!

He wouldn't have needed to stitch or glue it even if it was a scalpel neuter. He didn't need to shave it either, just nick the scrotum and remove the goods and then leave it be.

You will be surprised to know there is very little blood.

Was he trying to open himself up or just get the vet smell off?

I honestly don't know what was going on. He shaved him, but a bunch of blue stuff on it. The hole was as big as my thumbnail and there was almost no blood. He won't eat anything but I'm guessing he is super stressed out. I should of just found a way to spend the extra money. Now I feel pretty bad. I thought if I held him and wrapped him up nice and snug he would fall asleep but nope.

Please keep us posted. Do you want to try an ejacket instead of a collar?

He may not be able to feed himself with a collar on.

I'm not sure what type of
"H-E-double hockey sticks"
you went through with a collar, but I'll tell you an ejacket is no picnic either. But once it's on corerctly, they can't get out.

The US DOT has determined that operating a motor vehicle while wearing a glider on one's face is the leading cause of sugar glider related accidents. The more you know. wink
