Hi all! So I have had my girls for a little over 2 months now. They are doing so well and getting bigger! They get along exceptionally well, but there is a problem brewing. When I get up in the wee hours of the morning, I have been treating them to some mealies before they turn in for the day. They used to be great, but now Willow is getting agressive/attacking Aspen when she is done, or almost done, eating her worm. This has happened a couple of times now, and I was hoping for some advice before it gets out of hand. When I first got them there was a little problem with Willow stealing treats from Aspen, but now it is getting bad. I don't think it's because they are really hungry because they still have food in the cage. So not sure what's up. Thanks in advance!

You may want to take one out of the cage for treats so the other one doesn't steal. She is just being greedy.

What's funny is that it is only with mealies. When I give them yoggies or something else they are fine. A couple of mornings ago, they ate mealies separately, but after that, I left the room and heard a spat. Then another. Then I went back into the room and Willow was chasing Aspen all over the cage, crabbing like crazy. I tried to referee, and eventually they made up. I am wondering if they are just trying to figure out who is the dominant/alpha glider.

Of all the foods my gliders eat, meal worms are the one thing they will grab! Maybe your glider, Willow just wants all the mealies.

It's a good point. It's just that the spats happened well after all the mealies were gone. It was interesting. I didn't feed mealies the last 2 mornings and they have been fine. I will try them again during bathroom time today.

If I see it in time, I'll block the would-be treat-taking or use a finger on their nose or under their chin keeping them from getting too close. If that doesn' work, mine (the vast majority of the time) don't fuss when another grabs their treat. They know I'll give them another & the thief will get no more. Sometimes they're nice enough to share what's left of the treat, both nibbling away, buuuut I don't count on that.

They are WELL aware they won't go hungry... except if you ask them. Or give them a chance to voice an opinion. Or look away when your lunch in nearby.

When it's that time of the month for them, mine squabble a little more. Mine are not in sync, so we go through this twice a month...

How old are the girls when they start going through that? I am wondering if that might be it. Is there any "outward sign" that it is that time of the month? Being a new owner, I haven't heard much on this topic.

I believe they can start as early as 4-6 months.

Mine didn't show real bad moods untill they were about 2 yrs.

When they are in heat they make a lot of clicking and hissing noises and make other noises just randomly. Lasts about 2 or 3 days I've noticed.
