Happy 4th!!!

Ok, it's been a few years since the movie "Top Gun" premiered on the movie screen. "Good Morning America" announced "Top Gun 2" to be out next year.

Maverick(Tom Cruise), Iceman (Val Kilmer) and Goose's son (I forgot his name) will be in it.

It's been 32 years. Maverick and Iceman theoretically should be retired, and Goose's son if he is a pilot should be in his 10th year of flying.

I wonder if they will set the stage back 10 years, or how this will work if in real time.

Hutch, question: How long do pilots really stay in the military and fly? Maverick and Iceman could be instructors, more than likely civilian. But as civilians, can they really fly military aircraft? When all these questions came to mind, I thought of you...

I am a Top Gun fan, and this is a conundrum for me...

Maybe we could do a squeequill...

Starring:

Merlin, Arthur, and Stewie. There would be other stars too...

Like Herky (Bilkytense's boy with the wandering eye for all his girls).

Tucker: The voice of the past full of wisdom, love and courage.

And a cast of gliders who are only limited by the members who participate in making this story come alive....

Whadayall think?

As Herky's legal representative I can officially say that he is interested... Just as long as he has his own trailer along with a few other simple requests ....

I suppose we can work with that... I gotta find my DVD and watch it. Or figure out if it was borrowed...

We've been home since January. The 5th wheel is in the barn. Hard to get in and look for DVD's. The slide out is in...

Depends on how you define a flying career & whether they were flagged early in their career for command potential. Generally speaking, 10-15 years where flying is their primary duty (there is a lot of other roles they'll be tagged for along the way, but will return to the cockpit after a year or two). After that, sometime around O-5 (Commander in the Navy), they'll transition to being a commander (as in a position with command-authority over personnel, not the Navy rank). As they continue their career, they'll spend more time with other responsibilities & less time in the cockpit.

With the ranks they held in the movie, they'd be somewhere between O-6 through O-8 (Captain in Navy through Rear Admiral) or have retired. It is possible they're be rehired as civilians... but unlikely.

Yes, early training is often conducted by civilians (cheaper). Once they get to the final platform(s), they tend to be military.

Merlin would refuse to come out of the cage, crabbing at all the lights while Arthur would provide 5 minutes of complaining you made his butt look big before going back to the pouch to nap. You'd have better luck with Gwynevere or Morgana.
