So Its been over 12 years since Ive owned gliders and Im a bit rusty. 3 days ago i adopted a 9 week old female. Ive left her be up until today other then occassionally talking to her through the cage. Well i think its safe to say my sugar glider hates me already. She is SUPER crabby. I got her into her bonding pouch today and she just crabs ans crabs.. Even tries to lunge at me and attack me through the pouch. Whenever i talk to her to try and calm her down it seems to upset her even more as her crabbing gets louder and faster. Im freaking out with this automatic feeling of "im not gonna be able to get her tame" she is really vicious. No im not scared of her and im totally prepared to take some bites but i am concerned and just looking for any tips anyone has as to how i can break her in. I know its the first day n the bonding pouch and i really do hope im just overreacting because its been so long since i owned them. Thanks in advance!

She is just a baby and she has been removed from everything she was familiar with, slow down.

I would get an open environment pouch for her so she can see what is going on around her.

Put pieces of fleece in there for her than you have worn.

It sounds like you need to give her a little more time in the cage, but you could still use that opportunity to start bonding. Continue talking to her while she's in her NEW safe place, let her get use to your general presence & smell so she understands you're part of her new normal.

I agree with all the above and would like to add when you come into the room, announce your presence. I've done this for several years and they seem to appreciate knowing who/what is in the room. I also let them know when I'm opening the cage or removing the drop pan.

How are things going now? Better? It took mine a while to recognize who was in the room but now when I talk to them - not a peep!
