When I first got my suggies in 2009, this forum was teeming with discussion. Nowadays, both this forum and GliderGossip seem almost like ghost towns but it looks to me like gliders have spread a bit more in the general population. I see more ads for them on Craigs List and it seems there are more licensed breeders. Where did all the people go? <shudder> Facebook?

Facebook took a lot of people away from the forums.

It is good to see you back.

Personally... I've just been busy finishing a basement & since I tend to be quite verbose when I get going, I need more time with a more awake than not brain to truly write anything representing a discussion smile

I do like it when I see a lot of discussion or sharing... honestly, I prefer the story sharing & hearing everyone's experience.

Thanks. I notice some other differences. When I got busy away from the forums, Dr. Brust and ASGV were like lepers since he was associated with the dreaded PP. Now, I see him cited as a major contributor to the Sugar Glider Genetics Project and mentioned by a breeder in Houston. Has his reputation been rehabilitated? Was there a misunderstanding? or are he and ASGV still seen as shills? I notice ASGV's website still looks more or less the same and it seems impossible to find any other vet associated with it.

Is it just me or does it seem like suggies are just a little more widespead now?

Paani, you are so right about the change since you joined in 2010. Imagine the changes since I joined shock Kim/Feather is correct that the start up of the facebook groups certainly took away from the message boards since so many people were already there anyway.

Pocket Pets - well, we (GliderCENTRAL) still do not recommend purchasing from them unless the research has been done first, but they are still being sold pretty much as they were before in places where they target the impulse buyers. They have, however, made big changes in how they feed their gliders and what they send home with them. Their Glide-R-Gravy is actually Critterlove just marketed under a different name.

As for the ASGV, there are many reputable vets who are members of that association.

I have to agree with your statement because gliders do seem more popular now and definitely more accessible, especially the greys, but not limited to those. IMO, most people seem to want the colors ... the more exotic the more desired. We are also seeing more hobby breeders. Those who either just want the experience of joeys or think breeding for money is easy. Then we see more and more showing up either on newspaper ads, etc or in rescues.

You probably are seeing more licensed breeders who have worked hard over the past decade or a little less to establish a name for themselves and their business.

It's an ever changing word in the glider community, and GliderCENTRAL just tries to be here for those who still need us.
