For people who haaave had both traditional store bought metal cages and the homemade pvc cages. Is the pvc cage harder to clean?

Just my opinion but if you are able to move any cage outside and use a spray hose and dawn dish soap, you will have no problem.

Yes but I'm talking about the massive pvc cages they are not so easily moved. My thinking is the the netting would make it more difficult. I'm just curious, and planning for the future

I cannot talk for an entire cage made of mesh, but I have shelves made from it with a PVC frame and can tell you the plastic holds the smell more and is more difficult to wipe down. Compared to the powder coat finish of my cage. They have to be sprayed down with hot vinegar water let sit for at least 10 mins and wiped with a soapy cloth, and wiped down again with hot water only to rinse.

I've had these shelves for 2 years and have to take them out and soak them.

I did find this recently:

It really gets in to nooks and crannies in my big travel cage (we just got home from a 3month trip/ job. We travel in an RV). I haven't tried it on my PVC shelves yet.

I hope this helps.

My main cage is made from PVC-coated wire, thankfully before the toxicity scare. Regular cleaning really isn't any more difficult than the Madagascar powder-coated wire cage but at 6x4x2 feet, it is indeed a bit of trouble to get outside for regular deep cleaning. I think it's worth it for the increased play room it gives my suggies but your mileage may vary.
