So my 3-year-old sugar glider lives with his family of 4 other gliders and has done so his whole life.
He recently got an abscess on his face which I had drained today.
My vet didn't seem too sure, so I am turning to this forum for advice.
Should I keep him away from the other gliders until his face (where the abscess was drained) heals up properly?
He really didn't seem happy about being away from his family today, plus I have to buy an extra cage to keep him in (though obviously saving money is the least of my concerns).

-Thanks for input!

He may not be happy about being away from his family, however, it will be best for him so they do not bother it during the healing process.

Moving this to Health & Hygiene now. Please keep us updated on his progress.

I have just been notified by another member that he will do better if left with his family. She assures me they will not bother his wound, and he will heal better.

Hi there! So....I wouldn't separate, there's no reason. Facial abscesses are simple and heal quickly. Although there's a chance that someone would bother it, it's likely not going to happen and he will heal quicker if he's with his family. Pop him in there, no collar or anything needed, and things should go just fine. smile

Thanks for the input yall! I was unsure since I know some of my gliders like to pick at my scabs (not sure if most gliders do this or not).

Also thanks for moving the thread to the appropriate area, I was unsure where to list it.

He won't get a scab. The area will simply close up in a day or two and you won't even know it's there. They may groom him and of course, always keep an eye out for anything you see that's off, but chances are, all will be just fine.
