Hello everyone, I'm new here and I have some questions about my new sugar glider. I adopted a 1 year old male sugar glider from a friend a few days ago and this is my first time having a sugar glider as a pet. My friend got this glider when it was around 4-6 weeks old but did not have the time to bond with it and it was just left in its cage most of the time. My friend fed it with mostly fruits and veggies the entire time and it is kinda chubby right now.

I got the glider from the friend around 4 days ago and named it Bubbles, and I also got some pellet food, a new cage and pouch, and some treats. So far, I am feeding Bubbles only pellets and some treats and it is eating everything that I feed it aside from yogurt drops. I spent 4-5 hours everyday trying to bond with Bubbles for the past few days and right now it lets me pet it and it will climb onto my hand to eat.

I've read some of the other posts on this site but I noticed most of the advice are for bonding with younger sugar gliders, so are there other things that I need to be aware of when trying to bond with an adult glider??

Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks in advance!! smile

Hello and. wave :welcomegc: wave

Do you have any idea how old ?

Is it a male or female?

As far as diet, I would recommend either the BML diet or Critterlove diet. If you click on the blue word diet, it will take you to a database of diets.

What type of pellets are you currently feeding?

They do need fruits and vegetables in their diet. You could offer them as a treat also instead of sweets if he is a bit chubby.

Does he have a glider safe wheel? He may need more exercise.

So, I read your post twice and missed that he is a he and he's a year old... Sorry!

My other question would be is he neutered?

Hello and thanks for the quick reply! I am currently feeding him Gliderator pellets and he is not neutered yet. I don't have a glider safe wheel right now, how big should the wheel be??

Thanks again! :D

I'm not familiar with this one. Feather may have to help me out here.

Has he started bonding with you yet? I would be concerned with the sugar in the yogurt drops. If he will eat anything, I would try vegetables and fruits as treats.

wheels... It needs to be 12" inches in diameter.

And they look like this:

You may want to shop online for your country and see what is available closer to you. In Malaysia I think there are a few glider safe wheels. If you find a few, please paste a link to them here and we can help you with that determine if they're safe for gliders.

Basically you want to look for one with no center axle, no pinch points, and cage mounted.

Gliders jump across the wheel more than they run.

Can you get Critterlove where you are? There are distributors in Asia.

I have been to quite a few pet shops but none of them sell Critterlove, I will be on the look out.

Will let you know once I find a wheel. smile

wave and :welcomegc: You are getting some excellent advice.

Just to keep things easy for our members to answer who prefer to give advice in their preferred topics, please post questions and answers under those specific forums.

Don't feel bad because it happens all the time. We just get carried away having a conversation and try to cover everything at one time. You primary questions were about diet which is why I moved it here rofl We are all chatter boxes agree

Congratulations for your new friend. sounds like you are working hard to bond and he is responding. Best advice I can give about bonding is just be patient!
