Hi! I’m new to the forum, and still trying to figure it out. I’ve wanted to get sugar gliders for many many years now, and now that I’m an adult with a stable job and income I feel ready to FINALLY get some little sugar gliders! I’m curious though other’s opinions on adopting can shopping, my family has always adopted animals from shelters, or took in rehomed, so I wondering what others think about adopting or getting rehomed gliders vs getting a baby from a breeder. I know it is a lot harder to bond with an adult glider, and since they would my first gliders it could be really difficult. But I really do love being able to give an animal a second chance and a good home. Also there are not many breeders near me, and I don’t really want to go through the process of shipping. Any suggestions or opinions would be great! Also if anyone knows any good breeders in the Washington area, I’ve seen links to some, but most of them seem to not be active anymore.
Thanks!!!
Yumemi

Hi! And :welcomegc: wave

Adoption from an individual or a rescue near you may be the way to go.

Here is a general information that is a good read and has some links to groups on FB that have rescues/rehomes.

https://sugargliderguardians.com/

There may also be a WA or NWestern sugar glider group on FB.

I have seen gliders come up from WA state, so please be patient smile

In the meantime, do some more reading, asking questions and start gathering things they will need.

Try to avoid Amazon, as we have learned about 98% of the cage sets and toys are not glider safe.

Also avoid Exotic Nutrition diets. As they can't be proven safe yet. They have had issues in the past and are under hard scrutiny in the glider community.

We aren't as active here right now, but you are more than welcome to ask any questions you may have and we love hearing stories about your glider journey!

Dawn

Be patient,
and
Trust your journey....

Thank you so much for your reply! I’m happy to here that adoption is a good option! Thank you also for the welcome, I’m excited to join the glider community!!! I can’t wait until I can actually get myself some of my own babies, but right now I’m just getting all the supplies together. I want to make sure I’m completely set up before I get them. I’m not on Facebook, but I’ll have to keep my eye out for any groups or posts.
Thank you again!!
