There have been many questions posed about tannins - what they are, where they are, and how they affect your suggie. I know that I personallly do not feed grapes, raisins, bluberries, currents, pomegranates, persimmons, etc due to tannins - here is some reading material for those who want to know more: http://www.ansci.cornell.edu/plants/toxicagents/tannin/toxic_effects.htmlhttp://www.users.muohio.edu/hagermae/tannin.pdf - please note the study at the bottom of pg 23 regarding hamsters and other small animals http://www.colostate.edu/Depts/Entomology/courses/en570/papers_1994/alldredge.htmlhttp://www.widomaker.com/~jnavia/tannins/tannlist.htm - This is a list of foods containing tannins, they are NOT limited to fruits and veggies! http://www.widomaker.com/~jnavia/tannins/tanngood.htm - This is a list of tannin-free foods It's always a great feeling when you can make your OWN, informed decision! Happy reading! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/heartpump.gif" alt="" />

Tannin is such a complex word without a definite meaning so that it can be confusing to the average person. A story not long ago about a dog that died from consuming a large amount of grapes started a lot of rumors about tannins. I don't think the term tannins should have even been used as tannings can come from such a wide variety of sources. Incidentally two of the main sources for tannin products are the bark of the Acacia Gum (wattle) and the Eucalyptus trees. Here is an article that will give everyone a better understanding of the term 'tannin'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TanninAs you will see tannin is not one particular item but more of any number of things that can be used to accomplish the process of tannin.
