I found a hole in the mesh of the rept and it is to far apart to be sewn together does anyone have any ideas of what to do until I can order a replacement?

Thanks

If you can run out & get a piece of pet screen or plastic door screen, you can sew it over the hole with fishing line to patch it. Just make sure to do it with teeny tight stitches. then hang a pouch or something in front of it on the inside do they'll be less tempted to mess with it.

Lowe's and Home Depot have 'screen patches', they might work.

You might try Iron on Patches found at the craft store (walmart has them too), and iron on one to each side where the hole is. I have used them very well to repair holes in clothing. They wash really well, and hold firm without looking ugly or fraying. There are many colors to choose from.

Dunno If will work for your reptarium but its so much like cloth anyway, and it will move and bend with the material, and still be easily washable.

good luck let us know what you decided to used and how well it works.

Bailey chewed a hole in my rept one night when I was out late and didn't get them dinner in time...

It was a whopper of a hole, so I had to take a peice of fleece about 4X6 in size and hand stitch it on to the rept. It is still there to this day and is still holding strong.

thanks everyone for the answers I will get some and repair it but looks like Mason has decided to be a chewer so I am probably going to have to invest in a regular cage soon. frown

I'm not sure how long you have had your rept. but I have had a 'chewer' in a reptarium for 4 years. I watch him and he did chew several holes in his cage the first couple of years, but I finally figured out he was a chewer because he was stressed. And he always showed stress before any of my other gliders (things like when I got a new kitten and they didn't mind the scent of the old cat coming into the room, but the new cat freaked them out, so she's not allowed. And it took me years to figure out that they don't want their cage covers to be washed together or touching at all, because I have 2 pairs. Oh, and they HATE ceiling fans).

I always keep patching material around and put pieces of mesh on both sides of the hole and just use a sewing machine to go back and forth over the whole area (tiny stitches of course) I've never had him bother them. I also found covering three sides of the cage helps (mostly because they can't see any other gliders/animals in the room). Once I figured out his stress points, he hasn't chewed for well over a year and a half or so. But both of his cage covers do have a few patches.
