For those that are feeding there suggies BML or similar diets what if anything do you leave out for them to munch on during the day? My little Gidget will still get up and eat during the day some so I will generally leave her a little fruit and veggies to munch on that I put in her cage every morning after emptying out what is left from the evening. I don't like the idea of leaving fruits and veggies out all day though and wondering if there is a glider pellet or something that can be given to her to nibble on if she gets hungry? From what I've read it seems that cat food is not the best choose but I do have a cat that I feed Iams too and I'm wondering if this would be bad just to use to tide her over during the day so I don't have the fruit or veggies getting icky in her bowl?? So what do you all do that are in my situation?? Thanks!

I don't leave anything in their cage during the day. Of course, my three ride around in my bra during the day (or in a pouch if I'm in a meeting). If I'm munching on carrots or an apple and they poke their heads out for a snack, I'll give them some. The amount I give gets subtracted from their allotment for that evening.

They don't really need food in their cage 24/7. It would be like having a sandwich or something by your bedside, just in case you wake up in the middle of the night and feel like eating. You don't really need the extra midnight snack, and neither do your sugar babies.

With the BML diet, you also don't want to be offering additional foods that are not part of the diet plan. Glider pellets or cat food or anything else would throw off the Ca:P (calcium to phosphorus) ratios.

Okay thanks. I wasn't quite sure on what to do. Since I also carry her around with me alot of the day...we are still in the bonding process...I tend to give her little snacks too if I'm eating something that is good for her. Apples, she loves multi-grain toast, eggs, etc. I'll just not put anything in her cage then. I don't know..I kind of feel bad though that she won't have anything in there. frown But I'm sure she will let me know if she needs a little snack. :)Off topic but we just got her new bigger cage today and I'm going to set it up when I get home. It's so big and I can't wait to see her reaction!!

Avoid the toast. It can possibly cause intestinal blockages. (ie: they rely mainly on the fluids in their food, not the solids, and the bread would soak up the needed fluids.)

I leave some BML in each cage during the day because it urges the babies to eat more BML and not so much of the yoggies I am always tempted to spoil them with. I change the BML twice daily so it doesn't go foul.

No toast really?? Okay you get to tell her alright?? smile She really loves the crust on whole grain toast so every other morning or so I give her a tiny bit to nibble on while I eat my breakfast. Is there a list somewhere of all the foods they can eat and foods to avoid that I could print out and put on my fridge? There are so many to remember! Thanks for the info on the toast though...no more toast Gidget, sorry.

I leave snack stuff like (not all at the same time, just giving ideas) a couple pieces of Old fashioned oatmeal, couple of Cheerios, dried tiny papaya, yogurt drop and there is a baby snack cereal that comes in a canister that comes in sweet potatoe, corn, cherries, banana, etc. I give em 2 pieces of that (they are about the size of a Cheerio) and sometimes a piece of fruit and Insectivore fare (ZooKeeper's Secret) I have always given a yogurt drop at around noon and a piece of fruit like Honeydew melon around 5pm and my gliders all get up to eat at the same time, 8:pm sharp, OR ELSE! (or else I get the evil eye from all of them and that is scary walking into a semi dark room full of evil eyes!) LOL

I wanted to add also that gliders should always have something in their cage to eat in case they get hungry OR get LOW BLOOD SUGAR as can happen with gliders. They don't always get up to eat anything at all, sometimes only a bite but they should have something in case they want it or need it. smile

I leave a bit of Mazuri Primate food (it is a dry little pieces, high in protein) and a little fruit or dried fruit in their cage during the day. A slice of apple or a raw carrot makes a good daytime snack. The snacks SugarBlossoms listed sound good. I have used cheerios and they are so cute eating them. I have not given them toast, but they love a bit of 7grain bread with strawberry yogurt spread on like jam. They get that as a treat once in a while.

I too worry about them getting low blood sugar. Some days they eat it all and some days they dont touch it.

Angel and The Suggies.

Oh I had forgotten, last Christmas we took Cheerios and strung them on red ribbon and tied knots on each end. The pairs of suggies love to eat them like that (one suggie on each end) it's so cute!

Like Katty, I don't leave anything in the cage during the day (although mine do stash leftover yogies in the cage, lol.. I put the BML in at 830pm and it's removed around 6/7am depending on how late I stayed up with them. If they decide they need a snack (usually around 2/3pm), they will let me know by barking wink

I don't normally leave anything in their cages for them to munch on either but sometimes I'll toss a monkey biscuit or two into their cages. They are dry so they won't spoil.. and the gliders usually only take a few bites out of them.

I don't like to fill them up on things during the day.. and when I don't, they're great when it comes time for dinner and will almost always clear their plates.. BML, fruit, veggies, and yogurt! grin
