Two questions. First, if you freeze omega 3 fatty acids are they still viable? I know if they are cooked they are not. I was looking at pricillas diet, and Im curious if you freeze the flaxseed meal does it lose its omega 3 fatty acid value?

Second? has anyone used wombaroo (the stuff for joeys already oop) as the sole feeding supplement for rejected joeys? I have a female that is alone. She was a rescue and has no mate, asn turned up with joeys in pouch after almost 8 weeks of having her. I dont know anything about her, age, previous breeding etc... but I do know she is pregnant! I am just trying to be prepared. I have used Judies bml mixed with puppy milk to handfeed a baby to weaning. But never wombaroo, just curious what other peoples experiences are on that aspect. I ordered some, and I am wondering if using this powedered formula is a better handfeeding formula that I have used once before.

thanks all for your help

I honestly dont know the answer to the question about the omega 3's. But I do know of people that have used the wombaroo for rejected joeys. I believe that most use the baby bml however with great success. thumb

So if you cook fish, it's no longer a source of Omega-3s? That doesn't sound right.

As far as the Wambaroo replacer - yes, I have used it. I mix it with the Wambaroo IMPACT colostrum supplement, then around 2-3 weeks start mixing in BML, then 3-4 weeks mix a little more in - and so on until you are feeding straight BML. I have never used the puppy milk, so I have nothing to compare it to, but my babies all ate & gained well.

Glad you have a wombaroo answer, didn't know that one!

The fatty acids in the flax are fine after freezing. In fact, your flax seed will maintain its nutritional integrity best if kept in the freezer then ground for each recipe.

Good going Gina! You took the words right out of my mouth.

To answer your question, no, freezing Omega fatty acid oils does not degrade them.

On the topic of fish, the greater majority of fish including those marketed as "fresh" are at some point frozen or stored at just above freezing point while on its journey from the ocean to the supermarket. I am sure they wouldn't continue to deem fish as great Omega Fatty acid sources if freezing had any significant impact on the fatty acids.

Having said that, I'm not familiar with Pricilla's diet. Does it instruct to freeze the flaxseed meal? If it doesn't, perhaps you should consider following suggested storage instructions. If it does, then good for you for asking good questions!
