Yeah, that would be horrible for gliders if PetSmart or Petco started selling them. Today's Pet in Annapolis Mall sells them as well as a petstore in Abingdon where I used to live. The poor things are constantly poked, prodded, and manhandled at a time when they should be sleeping! I will pm you my info.

Oh, wow i didnt know they sell gliders, i dont even bother going into petstores in the mall(s), they make me sick to walk by them, just to imagine the isolated, unsanitary, and tiny cages those poor animals have to indure makes my stomach turn upside-down and inside-out.

I didn't even know that petstores in maryland had gliders I gotta check them out. Biggest problem i have is that its nothing you can tell most pet stores when it comes to care. Im gonna try but thats just the petstore environment. I guess gliders is getting really populart to be in a mall petstore. Alot of future rescues I see coming in 5 years

Holly, that's the place in Millersville off Veteran's Hwy? I went in there a couple times, they had kittens in a teeny bird cage and other snimals that weren't housed correctly My sis in law bought a puppy from there (after all my begging and pleading with her not too), and it ended up really sick and passed before she even was 4 months old of a liver shunt. PPC wouldn't even offer a partial credit and she'd not even had the puppy a month. They currently are in litigation to at least try and get some of the vet fees covered I lived in Sun Valley, so not too far from Pasadena the last time we were there...

Kerri, I've been to that Today's Pet (in Annapolis mall) as well as the one in Columbia mall. The stores are small, loud and bright, and it really sickened me to see gliders in there I went in looking for bird toys (this was before I had gliders and before I moved back to IN). I ended up not buying anything from them as I didn't want to support a place that operates like that I bought my 2 gliders from Today's Pet in Columbia Mall in September, that place is like [censored]................hot, cramped, too many pets & people in there. I work for the mall owners and pass by the store several times per week, sometimes stop in to take a look around. On a few ocassions I saw the 2 gliders in a very small cage (about 15" square), one bright flourescent light above the cage and some ivy thrown in for cover. The only food that I ever witnessed in the cage was green grapes & nectar, never anything more. I felt that I just had to get them, so one rainy Sunday afternoon it happened.
When I asked to get them, they send over some "kid" that had no clue as to what he was doing. He proceeds to try and capture them using two small cardboard boxes and corner them, not the way to go! The smaller one went in after about 15 minutes, the larger male put up a fight for over 15 minutes. At the end of all of this, all I wanted to do was get out of there and take them home. The store staff are poorly trained and rather snotty when it comes to questioning their operations, while the ordeal was going on about 10 people were standing a foot away watching. I politely asked them to move aside while the clerk gets them together for me, no one budged so I said get the [censored] out of the way and stop stressing them out!!!
The gliders are coming along nicely now, they still have a ways to go but they are my babies. They are getting some treats tonight for being good, I would never recommending pet store pets but this was like a rescue to me. The gliders needed someone that would stand up for them and give them a better home with lots of love.

Hope they don't get anymore becuase to me thats the petstore trap where everything they have is a rescue. Really sad about the petstore reputation becasue there is some good petsotres out there I just never found one. Maybe the best would be aquarium center in randallstown

I have worked in a few different pet stores. I did it so that I could try to give the animals the best (humane) treatment I could. I would go in on my days off and walk the puppies, work with the birds on hand training and just love on the small animals (so they would be used to human touch.) I ended up with LOTS of animals because I always felt so bad for them. They didn't sell gliders (thank goodness). A pet store IS NOT a place for one of these babies. Thank you for 'rescuing' those babies. I hope they will not get anymore, but sadly, they probably will.

That is definitely the pet store trap. Look how most petstores have the puppies...in tiny little cages with no toys and the puppies little feet slipping through the bars on the floor. They want you to feel sorry for the animals so you want to take them home. On the boston terrier forum I was on people would say how they had to save the puppy from the pet store. But it's just more money in the store's pocket and they will replace the animal quickly. I won't buy from any stores that sell puppies or gliders or any animal that likely came from a mill.

Now that there are glider mills which is becoming to be a more common word expect an explosion of glider rescues, political problems, and overall negativity around the glider population. Luckily they won't have the same fate as iguanas.Since the most specialized care needed is there diet. Im still happy about the glider onlt being able to usually reproduice 2 babies a year so alot of people that is in it to just make money will be discouraged from owning them.

hi all, i'm in Baltimore and have been a glider owner since this May. I'm currently attending Syracuse University, but i'm back for breaks and such. I'll probably be moving back after graduation this coming June. If anyone's still looking for a petstore in the area, there's a fairly decent one on Ridgely Road near Loehmann's, Old Navy and the Giant. I can't quite remember the name, but their gliders were sweet and well fed (Brisky's, fruit+veggies, mealies etc) and they had a great supply of glider things. I get my supply of dried papaya bits and nectar there and considered getting Marcus a new cage from there before i discovered Suncoast. If anyone's in the area, please send me a pm and maybe we could get together over winter break?

I have not seen the vet directory as it will NEVER open for me but I use the exotics vet at Fullerton Animal Hospital on Bel Air Road. His name is Dr. Brown and he's great. He's actually never seen my suggies as they are in good health (knock on wood) but he's seen my rabbit and rats when they were ill and he did the regular care of my ferret. I take my dogs to Fullerton to see any old vet but Dr. Brown is the only one that handles exotics. Also, thanks for the info on the pet store...I'm going to have to check the place out for some glider stuff.

Oh no, thank you: turns out, Dr. Brown isn't even that far away from where I live, so should I end up back in Baltimore after I finish school, I'll be making a few phone calls. Oh, and yeah, SeaBreeze is great: they've got all sorts of cute little fuzzies as well as the multitude of dried fruit bits and glider nectars. They also had a supply of glider shampoos, vitamins, and cleaning fluids the last time I checked. P.S.: where did you get your gliders from, if you don't mind my asking: i'm looking to get Marcus a friend as he's been single for a while and the one female joey i'd been anticipating is beginning to precariously fall through the cracks due to irritating circumstances. I'd originally been considering looking at girls in SeaBreeze, but I'd be happy to hear of breeders in the MD area.

A fantastic MD glider vet is Dr. Weist at Patuxent Valley Animal Hospital in Laurel. I've had him for 11 years, and he has really helped us out a lot. He really loves these little guys and has done lots of specialized research on them. I owe him their lives--especially as he saved one of my girls from a urinary tract infection.
