I didnt find connor untill about 15 minutes ago, his whole left side and tail are sticky with glue! i dont know what to do, how do i get it off??? he is eating drinking playing normally he just has glue on him I cant get him to the vet untill thursday when my vet, (the only one that does payment plans)comes back from vacation. Im soo worried about him...HELP please!

oh i'm soooo sry i don't know all i can think of is to maybe try and wash the glue off so that he doesn't injest it. take a wet cloth and try to get as much off with out hurting him as possible, and of course get him to the vet asap.

You can try and work any glue out of his fur with vegetable oil, soap won't help. You'll need to watch to make sure he doesn't eat any, and then try and bathe the oil out-keep him ON YOU until he's dry and warm-you will need soap to get the oil out, it just won't help with the glue. You might need to repeat the veggie oil/wash...but only time will get all of it out, and get into the vet as soon as possible, since I'm not sure if there's any toxic compounds in the fly traps. The mouse glue traps there isn't, it's just gum rubber-but there could be in the fly ones. Keep us updated.

a small amount of vegitable oil may help getting the glue off. I'll see if I can find some more suggestions for you.

Note: the reason for getting the oils out, is they can cause diarrhea-then you've got diarrhea, possible dehydration on top of everything else. It's important to try and not let him ingest any of this.

I have been told that peanut butter works great to remove the glue. Just rub it in and wipe it off. The oil in the peanut butter dissolved the glue and the particles of peanut are just abrasive enough to scrub it from the fur. Also leaves the suggie very shiny and smelling like a peanut. lol Suggie should probably have a little shampoo afterwards, following the directions that Jen gave. I guess it would depend on how oily the peanut butter left him. Have not had to try it myself, but the tip came from a reliable source. Godspeed Angel

The reason i suggested the veggie oil, is to try and keep the glider from eating the glue contaminated peanut butter off while being worked on...the veggie oil isn't as appealing, and should work about as well. Either will do the job, tho.

Ok..Connor has had an oil wash, which he took rather well sat still and let me work, and a good shampooing that he didnt take as well :/ not a crab or bite outta him though! i bought a little eye makeup kit, and it has an eyebrow comb in it, so i used that to comb his fur with. He is in my bra now, getting all dried and staying warm. i have a couple of questions... 1. i dont think i got ALL of the oil off of him, but i know I washeed and rinsed him very throroughly. is a tiny bit going to hurt him? 2. When he dries and if he still has some glue on him should i re-wash him? 3. How long should he be seperated from his brother? And I want to thank you four for your fast responses and great advice!! i dont know what i would do without you! I will NEVER use any traps of any kind in this house again!!!!!

If the glue is where he can eat it out, then another try or two would be in order (you may want to space out the washings, and keep him with you to watch to minimize stress)-he'll need to stay separate until it's gone, or his brother will also try and groom it off and possibly ingest some. If it's deep in, just keep working at it (I also use those eyebrow combs-work rather well on gliders, lol, I never used one for anything else!) If the glue remnants are in the ends of his fur (away from the skin) scissors should be able to clip the remaining bits-he'll look a little funny for a few weeks or so, but the fur will grow back...just be careful not to get his skin anywhere or he could start to chew at a wound. A tip on washing-handfuls of regular tissues (not the kind with lotions and such) pull water from their hair really quick and help them dry faster than a towel. A little oil residue shouldn't hurt much, but do keep an eye out for soft stools-if they show up offer a few flakes of reg. quaker oats (not quick cooking kind, and never more than 3-4 flakes in a day-24 hours- for pretty loose stools, or it can constipate or block them up). Sorry I didn't answer sooner-busy night at work.

I had a glider get caught on a fly trap once. It was a nightmare until I discovered the vegetable oil! I cleaned her with the vegetable oil, then wiped her down with Cottonelle Fresh Wipes to get rid of the veggie oil, then dried her, then combed her. It took a couple of repeats until I was able to get it all out of her fur. The glue they use is not toxic, so if she does ingest some of it, it's not going to harm her. However, it's best to get rid of as much of it as you can. Good luck & keep us posted.

Thanks suz...I knew the mouse ones weren't but wasn't sure about the fly ones (they have an odd smell sometimes).

That is SOO good to hear!! Non toxic what a relief! I got all of the glue out last night, it was all near the ends of his fur so it came out rather easily, he dried but was still oily, so I washed him with soap & water again around 10 this morning, and he is all clean. he's been with me all day, so im gonna do tent time with his brother tonight to see how he acts. My dad feels horrible i have re-assured him many times that it wasnt at all his fault and it has happend to me before, it was my fault for lack of thinking and putting the trap up. He told my mom that if Connor didnt make it due to poisioning or stress that he would get him cremated for me, but mom wasnt supposed to tell me that cuz i cried! I called the vets today and asked for them to have the exotics vet to give me a call when she gets back. Again! Thank you all SO very much!

HEY! We used to use the orange arasol air freshener (the one in the round white can with oranges on it) at the vet clinic to get animals off glue traps! IT WORKS GREAT!!!! We bought it at Walgreens! It is called Citrus Magic. Link to Citrus Magic Site I keep it on hand to remove adhesives and stickers... Hope that helps! Keep us posted!
