SW Burbs of Chicago here....Orland Park area.

Danielle, Ken, and their kids are here in ROck Falls, IL. Small town about one and a half hours SW from Rockford, IL.

Just wondering if anyone in Illinois can recommend a vet in the SW suburbs (Orland area preferably).

I don't need one yet, but I want to have one in the area just in case (God forbid) I should need one for one of my little babies.

I have seen postings for several on the North side and in the Western burbs, but looking for one a little closer to home. Would hate to travel too far in an emergency.

StitchsMom, I know there are a couple of glider owners down there. I know there's one in Collinsville, and another in O'Fallon. St. Louis isn't that far away, and there are at least 2 that I know of there (and another 1 or 2 out in the 'burbs).

Rowdy himself came from Caseyville.

Joanne, just wanted to let you know the best vets in our area is midwest exotics that is who I use and I live in Palos. They are in Westchester and are only about 20 minutes or so away. PM me if you need more info. Dawn

Hi all! I'm in Illinois too... but it seems I'm alone in my area of the state... I'm in Savanna - a small rural town in northern IL on the Mississippi River. It looks like the closest glider people are those in the Rock Falls area - which I supppose isn't too far away. By the way, what vet are you all using? I doubt in my rural area that there's any glider knowledgeable vets closer than Rock Falls...

I don't have gliders yet. I think I may have found the right ones though... I'm still gathering supplies and getting ready!

I guess I don't visit this part of the forum very often.
I am in Bloomington IL not to far away from you Peoria-ites. I have five gliders and love them all very much. I am thinking about starting a small exotics breeding/rescue facility here but I am at the beginning of the planning stages. I'll let you all know if I get anywhere with it.

Everytime someone mentions it, there are a few "count me in" posts -- but no one seems to be stepping forward to actually GET IT GOING!

I bought my boy from a place in North Aurora, whom I now suspect is a mill breeder. I can't post the name here, because of legal problems, but I wouldn't buy from him again.

There are gliders for sale in Southern Illinois, and in Western Illinois, if you check the Classified Central.

Laura Leigh - I read about a get together recently where they all met at a restaurant.

I'm ok with doing that, but if we do, we can't bring our gliders along. I read about another one which was a pot luck in a member's home. It seemed as if many brought their gliders. I don't know that I'd bring my glider anyway - so I'm ok with the restaurant idea. I mean, with quarantine issues, I wouldn't want to introduce Rocket to someone else's glider. And altho I'd love to see others' gliders, I think it might be stressful for the gliders.

So, if there are enough of us, maybe we could get a banquet room at a restaurant, where we can hang out and talk, and exchange stories and pictures for a few hours?

I think ideally the place should be more centrally located in the state. I'm way up north, so that's why I haven't been jumping on the whole planning thing. Maybe someone nearer Springfield, for example, would want to plan?

What sort of things do they raffle?

You might want to talk to Chris or Lynsie for tips/ideas. Chris has hosted them for the last two years in Quincy, Illinois and Lynsie has been to quite a few Glider Gatherings too.

I am centrally located, but don't have the time or space at the moment sorry. Expecting relatives from England in April and again in the summer and I need to create/find/unearth (LOL) an extra bedroom in my house before then! HELP!! My store stuff is overflowing and taking over the house!

People usually sit and visit and talk about their gliders or glider related issues! You could make toys for yourselves or make items for rescues.

For the raffles it is usually glider related stuff and the money raised will go to a glider rescue or glider rescue organization.

Critter Hill - I think that I'm going to help get alot of that store stuff out of your house!

Anyone else having HUGE snow drifts today? The weather is crazy!

It took me 2 hours to get to work today - normally 40 minutes tops in bad traffic! Argh! Snow, Snow, Snow!

I think Rocket is sensitive to weather changes. He's been having strange (for him) moods, and each time it is either snowing, or about to snow.
