Hi. I need to know if it is normal for sugar gliders to have swollen mother toes...i just discovered it on my sugar glider and i am very concern. Need to know if this is part of his growth or something bit him or some other reasons?

Please email me at hhsuen_86@hotmail.com

Gliders should not have swollen anything. Swollen is usually an indication of injury or infection. If it hurts, the glider will attack the area, as that is a reaction to pain. This is also called self mutilation (SM). I would get the glider to a vet.

I totally agree. You need to get the glider to the vet before the evening or weekend rolls around and you end up having to go to the emergency clinic and see a vet that may not know a lot about gliders. Please take the glider immediately and when you get back let us know what he said. Also, when you get back take a few minutes to register. It's free and then you will be able to post in all of the forums and not just the Emergency Forum. Plus, it makes it easier for us to keep up with your posts and know who we are talking to. Good luck at the vet!

Anything swollen on your glider should be looked at by a vet!

This is NOT normal and needs to be checked before it becames a bigger problem which it will be without a doubt if not treated worried

Swollen toes can be one of the symptoms of metabolic bone disease (also known as Hind Leg Paralysis). This glider needs to be seen by a vet immediately. X-rays need to be taken of the entire skeletal system. X-rays are the best diagnostic tool in determining whether or not a glider has HLP. It is possible that the swollen toes are caused by something else, too. So, please find a glider-experienced vet who will know how to properly diagnose your glider's condition.
Please do keep us updated.
