I have just noticed that my baby has a small pinkish protrusion coming out of her anus. I can not find any vet or animal hospital that is open, being a sunday night I'm really afraid that making an appointment first thing in the morning may be too late. If you can give me any advice, or if you know of a place i can take her asap (I am in Austin, TX) Her attitude is fine and she doesnt seem to be in any pain, but I'm really worried. She's 8 months OOP. Thank you for any help. Mac aging_in_rhythm@yahoo.com

8 months oop, and I guess I'm not completely sure? no bald spot, but no visible slit either. Is there anything thing else I can look for? Also, I should note that the protrusion goes in and out..
thanks

Hun, it sounds like normal cloaca movement to me. Gliders do move their cloacas around - is she doing anything else to make you think she's sick?

If you go to this page, you can see a pic of what the cloaca looks like. It can look larger and protrude some, especially when they're scent marking.

Thanks everyone. I couldnt see the picture from above but there havent been any signs of her/(him?) being sick at all. Still playful and acting normal. Last night she was rubbing against things a lot in that area (maybe like she was rubbing her scent?)and this never happened before. But I thought she was doing that because it hurt or was bothering her..
Is the cloaca protruding something that comes about as they age? Is it wise to still get it checked out?

Actually, I can see the picture now and it looks exactly like that..at times protuding more and little more pink. So, I guess I can stop worrying and change her name from lady to laddy?

Sorry about that, not sure what happened.. Try this one, just click on the first pic and it will get larger for you. What you describe definitely sounds like scent marking, and would explain why the cloaca looked like it was protruding When you have a chance, please take a minute and register. It's free and easy and will allow you access to all the forums. This will be moved to behavior and anatomy here in a few minutes

no visible slit either. Is there anything thing else I can look for I find that the slit is quite hard to see when they're adults. But if your glider's a boy, you should be able to notice quite easily. While he's climbing on the side of his cage, check out his belly and see if there's what looks like a fluffy little "button". Just a small, round little part that sticks out a bit. It should be very easy to spot, if he's a boy. That's how I can immediately differentiate my male & female when all I can see is their tummies.
