Have new mom. Babies 2 weeks out of pouch. Mom has Diarrhea. Took to vet, said bacterial and some other infection. Put on antibiotic, Metronidazole with Pepto Bismal. He did not know if this would hurt babies or give them diarrhea from the antibiotic. Anyone know?

Thank you so much for the answers. At this point I am assuming that it would be better to try to leave with mom (infection, antibiotic & all) than to try to separate and ween?

Thanks! They seem so small and delicate when they're sick, and then mischievous little monsters when they're well!! LOL

I had to put my female on flagyl and a Batryil while she was nursing a 2 week oop joey because she contracted giardia.
I got varying answers on whether it was better to pull to the joey or leave the joey with mom. If the joey is pulled - it does take the stress off of the mother to have to care for and nurture the babies...however, sometimes pulling the babies will stress the moms even more making them more susceptible to the illness. If you do leave the babies with mom, sometimes nursing the babies will not allow her body the strength to recover.
I personally chose to leave the baby with mom but suppliment feed and help with babysitting. At this point, I would start the mom on the meds and keep a close eye on how she handles the stress with the babies. If babies apper to be getting neglected I would start will supplimenting them and, if need be, pull completely.
Good luck.
