I know this has been talked about before, but I desperately need help.
My glider is starting to smell and it seems like nothing is working. I change the trays every other day and wash pouches once a week. I just can't keep the odor under control. They are on P's diet and I follow the ingredients as stated.
If you have found a product that works really good please let me know. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

all i know is neutering helps the odor... sorry
but the more gliders you have the more they would probably scent mark? Do they share the same room?

Yes, I won't neuter because I am a small hobby breeder.

purayre seems to help a bit. I spray everything down mid-week. pouches and fabric toys get alternated washings every weekend. Hard toys get wiped down every week with quick clean (orange oil and water). The cages are wiped down every week and get a good break down and cleaning about once a month. I still notice the smell, but its not so bad that I can't stand it... and i have 5 mature males, one male joey and 3 females (with 4 more on the way, lol)

I found that changing the tray liners and cage covers often helps a LOT!

for tray liners i use fleece that I have sewn to stretch over the tray, for cage covers, i get the cheap twin flat sheets from walmart, install rivets and clips to hang it with. Everything goes in the wash together. I guess you could just spray them down with purayre too, but it is just as easy to throw them in the washer.

I shake out my fleece every day, wash that once a week and only wash pouches every other week. Oh, and I run my rainmate wink

Does the rainmate make a big difference?

I only have 3 intact males, not sure how many you have, but yes, it makes a big difference smile Only my one male (Hermes) is fully mature and really marks right now, Wiggles is 4 1/2 months and Simon is 2 1/2 months..

I've had the same problem with my gliders, and all of my boys but one are neutered. It doesn't bother me so much as it does my husband.

I made the mistake of cleaning the cages TOO much and put the boys into overdrive to scent everything back up each time. I still laugh at myself for that one. But as far as any advice, I'm afraid I have nothing very good to suggest.

There are some products I've seen on glider sites, like these glider odor products, but I haven't tried them yet. I'm afraid to use them around my breeding pair, and to be honest, they really are the most smelly of them all. tounge

The Pureyre from Suncoast really does work and is prefectly safe to use around your suggies. It was one of the first things I bought when I got my first two rescues and they were girls.

Elimina from Exotic Nutrition works, only problem is it shouldn't be used for pregnant or nursing mums.

I had a pair in on rescue last year they stunk to high heaven, it was evil, the elimina was drastic action until their new diet kicked in. The smell subsided quickly, I finished off the bottle and never had to use it since. smile
