I'm not being rude but please let only the professional glider owners answer this. I need the correct advice fast and not opinions. Thank you. thumb

I think I have a pouch problem. She just had a baby oop for approx. 1 week. Is this what they call a desended pouch?
How fast should I get to the vet???

Paula, the pic is a little small to see much detail, do you possibly have a larger one you can post as an attachment?

My other problem is that the doc is out until Friday AM. No other vets see sugargliders in my area.
I already have the first appt. for Friday AM.
I'm watching to make sure that she's feeding the baby.

yes, thank you. I'd get her in to the vet asap, as it definitely looks like she has an inverted pouch

It doesn't look inverted to me but more like a swollen mamorey gland. I guess thats why we always advise a vet check rather than opinions. They really know instead of us just trying to guess. blush

What causes and inverted pouch or a swollen mamory gland?

swollen mammary glands can be a sign of the starts of mastitis or an infection (bacterial in most cases). I'm not sure what causes an inverted pouch..

I believe both are caused by a bacterial infection and need to be treated with antibiotics.

Paula, just got home a few minutes ago & tried to call you. After seeing the larger picture here in this thread, I agree with Carrie that it looks like a swollen mammary gland. I would definitely get her to a vet ASAP and not wait until Friday. Is there another vet within a one hour radius that you could take her to? Also, you may need to supplement feed the joey during the interim because it may be painful for the mother to nurse the joey with the gland being so swollen...
Call me if you need me. I will be going to the church to work on some stuff this evening, but you can call my cell phone if you don't get me at home. Cell # 440-520-4799

Thanks to all who care so much, especialy you Suz. Thanks for trying to call. I was so nervous at the time I called you that I think I gave you my old number. Duhhh.

No other vet would see us because they don't/won't deal with exotics. Very sad!

I started antibiotics on Wednesday and by today it was completely back inside like nothing was ever wrong. I, of course, still took her to the vet today and he was pleased with everything I did for her and the baby. I was thrilled about that.

I love my vet. He's honest with prices, caring and really thinks things thru when he tells you how to care for them. He told the nurse to call me every day so he could know the weights and everything else that was going on.

Thanks again for your concern.

Today is the fourth day of meds but for some reason the pouch came out again. I guess another trip to the vet is inevitable. :o(

I'm supplementing the baby every four hours and she seems to be doing fine and gained weight since yesterday morning at the vets.

It's still going in and out from time to time. No discoloration at all and it looks perfectly normal otherwise. I seem to think that my little Burby is pulling it out when she nurses. Could that be?

I've stopped supplementing Burby because I was worried that she would always be too full to even try to nurse. I check her weight everyday and it's going up.

Joeys will definitely pull the edges of the pouch out while nursing. As long as it's a healthy pink color, there's no worries thumb

Suz, she has a few more days of antibiotics left. Should I stop? I hate medicating when the baby's nursing.
