Hi
I trim my gliders nails every 1-2 weeks. Even after I trim them they still manage to get caught on everything. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Well the only thing I can think to tell you is maybe to get one of the nail trimmers that goes on their wheel. What type of wheel do you have? I like the Stealth or Rescue wheels the best. You can just get a strip of 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper from Home Depot or Lowes and tape it around the OUTSIDE of the wheel. Then as they run, it will file just the tips of their nails and the pads of their feet will be protected by the running surface. You'll still probably have to trim them occasionally, but it will keep his nails from having that really snaggy needle-like point.

what kinds of materials are they getting caught on? Is it stuff in thier cage, or out of the cage?? When you trim them, how close do you get to the quick?
some materials, no matter how trimmed thier nails are will snag.. Like terry cloth, cotton, basically anything thats weaved.. fleece and felt are the only things they wont get caught on.

Ok, I have a couple little boys that do this, but their nails are a different shape than everyone elses. My other gliders nails all curve like a "C", but these boys' nails are like a half moon - they arc, then they have a straight line across the bottom. So, when you trim them, you make a blunt edge. I don't know why they grow like that, but if you trim them straigt on, then trim the corners to "round" out the nail, it doesn't snag as much. I suppose if I put sandpaper in the wheels, it would do the same thing, but I don't like the idea of them peeing and pooping then running in it.

you dont need to leave the "trim tracks" on the wheel, just put it in every other day or something.. I just had an experience with my one glider climbing up adn down my bare arm.. now i look like a leper.. my arm is all blotched and red and i clipped thier nails 2 days ago!!! i think they have little files that they hide in their pouches and sharpen them when we arent looking
