What diet is/was he on? Poor diet can make for a smelly glider. Is he intact? Since he's a rescue, you should definitely get him neutered if he's not already. That would also greatly reduce the smell.

If they were only feeding him mealworms and fruit, then I'd guess that his poor diet previously is the culprit of his rank smell. As his body gets rid of the toxins from his previous poor diet and he gets healthy, the smell should greatly diminish in time... it may take a few weeks, so be patient

Hey there! I forgot to mention that a good wipe down might help out too. Just take a warm wash cloth (damp, not soaking) and give him a good rub. Afterwards, dry him COMPLETELY and keep him from catching a chill. That might help you out too. I still think that with regular cage cleanings (I have it on good authority that his pouch was YUCK) and a good, proper diet, his smell should decrease over the next few weeks. However, boys will be boys. The best way to reduce the smell is neutering him. Thanks again for giving this guy a place to go. Who knows what would have happened to him!

My first two girls were rescues and they smelled worse than horrible. They were not on a good diet so that was the first thing we changed. I ordered some of the Glider Dry Shampoo from Suncoast. You spray it on, rub it in really good and then dry it off with paper towels or a dry wash cloth. Boy did it make a huge difference. Here is the website: www.sugar-gliders.com

I don't know about physically washing them as I've never done with mine - but let me tell you this: I got Carmella in Jan and just got Tony a week ago (today!). Let me tell you what - when I got him he was SSSSSSSSSSSTANKY! After the first night his new clean pouch I'd given him was already all stanked up so I switched their pouches (I'm talking with both pouches side by side you could smell who's pouch was who's from an arms length or more away). The next morning, the pouch he'd slept in was already SIGNIFICANTLY less smelly than the one the night before. It progressively got this way and now, after only a week, there's a HUGE difference!!! Give it time with a good diet - I attribute what we feed him to him (and his excrament) smelling better. (I feed BML) ALSO a good tip is to use puppy pads instead of any sort of litter. They absorb an enourmouse amount of the smell my 2 put out - him esp b/c he's not fixed yet. It's really easy to change them more often too. I have heard some people get human incontenence pads too, though I don't know how comparable that is at keeping down smell. Hopefully that helps - keep us posted and get pics up asap

I have a bird and I use the poop off and poop off wipes and they work great as they use an enzyme that feeds off the ammonia and other stuff and it is 100% natural and will not harm any animal and even Zoos use them as well and you can find them at Petco and most pet stores as it also works good for dog accidents.
It comes in a spray bottle or in the whipes and it is called POOP OFF!
I also have a spray that smells like peppermit that is designed for handling sugar glider odor! It works pretty good as you spray it on your hands and then pet them and it works pretty good.
Newspaper works great as a cage bottom as it is very absorbant and it can be changed easily and is very inexpensive!
Hope this information helps.

When I first got Eevee she was a stinker...i think it has something to do with just being in a new environment. They mark their surroundings and of course diet is a factor but I think it also has to do with coping with a move. Eevee's stink went away after about 2 weeks or so. Just my lil imput..haha
