I have a female sugar glider named Leilannie. When I was playing with her this afternoon i noticed that her pouch kind of had a pink ball hanging out of it. I can stretch it and she does not get upset. Is it possible that she is just maturing?

Welcome to GC! Are you sure it's a girl? I know it sounds funny but people have been know to make that mistake. (I mis-sexed my first joeys when they came oop. ) It sounds like you are talking about a male's "pom"

I've never seen anything like that with my girls. A picture would help us tell what is going on, but from your description it sounds like a vet visit is be in order.

If you are 100% sure she is, uh she... I've not heard of anything like that before. I suggest either try to show a photo, maybe someone can help or definatley ask a vet. It may be time to get her checked out, the earlier the better. It could be nothing but I'd rather be safe than sorry. (Sorry I can't be more helpful )

Thankyou. I'll try to get a picture up. I think that it just might have been the skin in her pouch streched out cause when I looked at it later it wasn't as bad.

I think that is what it was. Because now it looks better. It was just that it was hanging out on one side and it scared me.

Thankyou all for the info. I will get her in with the vet for a check up. I also need help with her nails. The Nail-O-Matic that I got to put in her wodent wheel makes her lemp. So I can't use that.

I got Lei to the vet today and it turned out that it was as Becki said. Her pouch was inverted. It is not infected and she is in good health. Thank y'all again for the help.

What causes an inverted pouch if there's no infection?

Thanks! It's so odd - I had seen this post, and when my girls got up for the evening Alkina had this same problem. Didn't look to be any swelling or redness, but I called the vet. They said that since it didn't seem to be irritated as long as it wasn't bothering her (or she wasn't bothering it) I could wait to go in today (that's when my normal vet will be there anyway). So I slept in the bedroom where they are last night just to be sure there were no strange noises. It's still out some today, and we go at 3:30 for our appointment. What happens if it doesn't go back in and stay there? She's just a little over a year old and has never had joeys.

What the vet did with Lei was invert the whole pouch. Then he put it all back in. He did this by stretching the skin around the opening and all the teats wents back in nice and neat. But it was really interesting seeing how big the pouch actually is on such a small animal.
