Jorn, my 6 month old male is seizing... I took him to the vet, and they did a fecal, but didn't find anything. They don't know of any other tests they can do for him. They gave him some sort of anti-seizure meds, and they aren't helping. Do any of you know of anything I can tell my vet to do that may help my baby?

Is there anything he could have gotten into or eaten? Did they do a urinalysis??

I'm going to put out a yell for help and see if we can get you some more ideas..

There really isn't any way he could have gotten into anything he wasn't supposed to in the past few days even. I have only had him in tent time. During the last call to the vet, they hadn't gotten a sample for a urinalysis, but they may have by now

If he is on a diet using those certain vitamins that I am so against, according to the person who wrote the article on them, they can cause siezures.
What diet is your glider on?

Fly (rescued gerbil)
Luna, Cibil, Newbie (gerbils)
Koda (rescued dog)
Minket & Angel (rescued cats)
Poseidon (walmart betta)
Heron (semi-rescued treefrog)
Suggies coming soon! =D

I'm not sure. I feed him Pricilla's diet with the vitamins every day. plus he gets the monkey biscuits and dry food during the day

Don't fret. Those weren't the vitamins I was talking about.
Though I must confess I have no idea what are in those vitamins. I doubt that's the cause.

Where did you come across this little fella? It could be something genetic carried by one of his parents. When did the siezures first start?

He came from Queenduck. I got him last December. They started some time this morning. I noticed he was up rather late this morning (around 11), so i fed him some extra food, and while i was watching him, he had a seizure. I called the vet, and she met me at the office. He has gone down hill since

Here's Jen's number. Call her, she won't mind. If she don't have an answer she will get you in contact with Charlie & Mary or Bourbon. Is he still seizing?

It could possible be a liver injury. You need to get to a vet ASAP. Please find a vet that can take care of him. Most vets have a small animal hand book they can go by.

I just got a call from the vet. He has quit seizing, at least since the last time i talked to her. But he is still VERY weak, and not really eating or taking anything voluntarily. I asked her to keep pushing the fluids at the very least. She is mixing the yogurt juice and pedialyte for fluids. I'm not sure what else to tell her to do for him. We don't have any vets around here that are overly experienced in gliders. So we are pretty much working hand in hand with my little experience and knowledge from here.

Oh that's a good sign atleast. Did you ever get ahold of Jen? She really helped me out with Popeye. Where are located at? I am wondering how far you might be from my old glider vet, they were AWESOME, i wish I was back in Illinois. They are called Midwest Exotics.

My usual sites aren't working, which is odd.
Get ahold of as many experienced people as you can. I wish I could help you more, but I don't know enough to do much.
=(
I'm sorry.

Cindy, I'm about 4 hours south of Chicago, so unfortunately that won't work.... But i did just call my vet and gave her the number for them... hoping they can give her a little more insight... She is up trying to feed him every hour she said, and not to hesitate to call her to check on him if i am up. He has at least quit seizing after i suggested the juice and pedialyte mixed.... I'm starting to think maybe he is hypoglycemic.....

Has the vet given subq fluid? Either D5W or sweet ringers lactate?

Suggies will seize if they are dehydrated or if their blood sugar gets too low.

Subq is the best way to handle the problem.

Honey water by mouth will supply glucose which goes directly to the brain to off set the neurological consequences of the low blood sugar.

Sweet ringers contains electrolytes which help to balance the system.

The suggie should be evaluated for calcium deficiency, parasites and infections.

Prophylactic treatment with a broad spectrum antibiotic should be considered.

Make sure the suggie is kept warm.

We are keeping you in our prayers.

Angel, Thank you! Yes she is doing sub-q fluids, and pushing the yogurt baby juice and pedialyte (50/50) by mouth at least every hour by my suggestion... Once she started doing the juice mixture, the seizures stopped... I am thinking it may have been a problem with dehydration (although i checked thier water this morning, and it was fine) or low blood sugar, or a combo of both.

What fluid is she giving subq?

Normal saline has no sugar in it... D5W and sweet ringers do contain sugars....

I would add a little honey to the juice/pedialyte mixture....the glucose is absorbed directly from the lining of the mouth and stomach and sent to the brain....no digestion necessary...it is fast relief.

The vet might want to look at measures to prevent swelling of the brain...solumedrol type medications in humans....I dont know what is used in suggies....probably some sort of similar medication...both dehydration and low blood sugar can lead to swelling in the brain.

Will keep you in our prayers.
