Either get her in a collar, or you'll have to hold and watch her all night to make sure no further damage is done. I'm going to post this, and start on one with some more directions. Hang in there. Any way you can get a pic? Is she bleeding?

Here are the ecollar instructions. The link has the words, and the attachment near the bottom has step by step pictures: http://www.sugarglider.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/69788/page/1#Post69788Here are Va vets-don't know if any are 24 hours or not: http://www.glidercentral.net/links/pages/Vets_Database/United_States/Virginia/index.htmlYou'll want to get her into the vet first thing in the morning. You'll want pain meds (Torbuterol or Butorphanol...not Metacam), and a broad spectrum antibiotic to prevent infection...make sure you have at least a week's worth of pain meds, and two weeks worth of antibiotics. Also, if you have any Betadine, you can mix some with some water and dip her toe in it, then rinse it off, to kill any bacteria on the surface. Neosporin is also a possibility. The most important thing you can do is get her into a collar so she can't do any damage to it...if it hurts she could continue with other toes or even her foot (I've seen it happen). The less damage, the better the recovery. if you have to hold her wrapped in a towel to keep her from it until you can get one made, so be it. The vet may be able to rig a collar for her, but theirs have a tendency to cut into the neck in time, so you'd want to replace with the one in the link as soon as you can to protect her neck. When in the collar, you'll need to modify feeding, and sleeping arrangements, and take out anything she could fall on. Either make the cage shorter by turning it on it's side, or use a smaller 'hospital' cage if you have one. I'll post pics of the bird feeders that work with a collar, and what a cage for a glider in a collar can look like.

If it's just the nail, she'll still need a vet, and the meds, but it may not be as bad or hard/long to recover. If part of the toe came off (or she chewed it to get loose), she's at risk to take more. Also offer drinks, as stress can dehydrate, and getting stuck is very stressful on them, and a sweet treat. Once she calms down, see if you can get a better idea what's missing.

I am gonna try calling the ones in VA beach to see if any of them are open...I really want her seen tonight if possible. I don't have the stuff to make a collar so I am going to have to run out and get it, I am looking for neosporin now. Thank you so much...I saw that nail on her pouch and flipped out

I got her to let me look at it, and it looks like just nail...it doesn't seem to be bothering her as she is running all over me, but I still want vet care asap. I tried to get a pic but my camera won't focus close enough to get a detailed one.

Just remember with the neosporin not to use the kind with pain relief (Plus) if she can possibly lick it...only the plain kind. We don't want her to inadvertently injure a numb mouth. Keep us updated. With the nail gone..there's still the potential for her to chew, and for infection, so when you do get into the vet, ask for the pain meds and antibiotics. The pain meds may control it enough to keep her out of a collar, though I would still have one on hand in case. Some gliders are more sensitive than others to pain. Right now, she probably has natural painkillers in her system from the sudden injury, but it will wear off in a few hours or so...that's when the danger of her messing with it comes in...it'll hurt more tomorrow that it does now.

none of the vets listed are open, they listed ER vet numbers, but I talked to two and no one really takes gliders...do you think I need to take her anyways? I put some non numbing neosporin on it and got a really good look, and its just her nail thats gone, and its not bleeding

I put her back in her cage and I am watching her really closely, she's not messing with it, and running in her wheel...is the wheel gonna hurt her toe where its missing the nail? Should I take it out?

I'd watch her tonight and go ahead and take her in the morning. It's always best to be safe with these. Is there a way she (or her cage) can be near you so you can get up to check on her, or hear her if she begins to worry at it?

The wheel might not be a good idea, simply because pee and poop get on there, and could get in an open wound more easily with her running, or irritate it. Might want to remove that until tomorrow night.

Her cage is in the living room, and I already planned to sleep out here on the sofa to listen out for her. I removed the wheel and gave her a yogie...she munched her yogie then climbed in her pouch with her sister. Eek...is it okay to leave her with her sister? Or will her sis mess with the wound? Sorry for so many questions

Probably not, where it is, and the fact it's relatively small. If she does, it'll probably hurt, and you'll likely hear them have an argument. Check on it when you look in on her-if it looks to be getting worse, or you think she is, you can separate. For now, sis will probably be more of a comfort to her.

I just got back from the vet...who by the way was fantastic and very glider knowledgeable....(Dr Thomas at Great Neck vet Hospital). She looked at Tia's foot, and said it looked nice and clean, and she cauterized it so it wouldn't be as tender and open to infection. She said antibiotics weren't really neccessary at this point, but if I notice any signs of infection to come back. I asked about pain meds, and she said unless she looks to be in pain or messes with it (She hasn't messed with it at all) she doesn't usually recommend them. So for now its a watch it and let it heal. BIG THANKS TO JEN/XFILEFAN for helping me last night, I have a collar made and ready in case she goes after her foot, but so far so good

Glad to hear the good update on the poor girl.
My dog did that last spring - she broke her nail off below the skin. It is over a year now and JUST growing back.
On the plus side - it is one less nail to trim! I'm not trying to be heartless - but it does sound like she is doing great and not even missing it.

Sorry if someone already suggested this, but I would remove the pouch for good. Always check pouches to make sure there are no loose threads or holes.

I am really dilligent about checking my pouches, and I only use fleece. There was no loose thread or hole, she was literally hung up in the fleece material. My vet suggested that cause she is my tiny girl (only 60 grams!) that she may not have the strength to pull herself out of a snag that may not bother any other suggie. I am going to try upping her protein to build muscle, and she recommended Glider Booster supplement to help her calcium level.

Sometimes the tip can be so sharp, that even just recently trimmed, they can still hang up. I'm glad all is going well, cauterizing probably killed any germs on the wound itself, as well as sealing it-many vets don't do that for so small a wound, so we recommend meds to make sure it's covered-since it's not necessary to lose fingers or a hand over something that easily preventable. Watch for any redness or other discoloration, swelling, or heat in the finger/surrounding area-signs of infection. I was happy to read yesterday she's doing so well-hope it continues. The nail may take several months, but may eventually grow back in..don't be surprised if it comes back a little different than it was before-that can happen when the nail bed is damaged. It shouldn't affect her grip with only one missing though. Good work! How is she today?

She is doing well...doesn't seem to miss the nail at all. She has been up running in her wheel (she was really happy to get it back) and climbing all over me, she is currently asleep in my shirt. My little bra baby

Ahhh... she loves you!!! So glad to hear that it doesn't seem to be bothering her. My Mareki did the same thing to herself a few weeks ago. Although the nail hasn't really started to grow back yet, she's doing just fine
