Plain white vinegar and paper towel or a rag is a good cage wipe (is it for the cage or elsewhere?). I don't like using chemical cleaners much, but I do have to share that I recently used vinegar on their cage and it just created this awful smell...not vinegar itself...but it just sort of nastified (!) the smells of things that may have been on the cage bars. My husband had to take it down 14 stairs and rinse it with the hose outside. The irony was, we were trying to avoid that because it's a big cage and hard to move around. If you used Lysol or Clorox, I would wipe it down very thoroughly after the fact just to get the chem residue off. Maybe there are some natural wipes out there? I'm not keen on Clorox or Lysol wipes for the suggies, either. It's just really strong chemical stuff. OH...almost forgot, there IS one style of Clorox I'm wanting to try on the cage: There is a light bleach mixture that's a 1 to 10 concentration and is in a spray bottle. It is safe to use even on children's toys. It does smell like bleach but dries quickly. This is what classrooms and such use for toddler surface cleaning and toys that get mouthed. You could easily mix it yourself for cheaper (1 part bleach/10 parts water). Just thoughts.

Pocketfaeries, the stuff you want to try is called Chlorox Anywhere spray.
As for the bleach free wipes, I use them, I have for years,I have NEVER had a problem with them either. I have reccomended them, and I have never had any problems reported back to me regarding them. I guess it's to each his own, research it, and then make the decesion your most comfortable with.

You probably shouldn't wash the bleach off (from the light bleach solution) giving it a chance to really disinfect. Just make sure you give it time to dry. After you wash something down with a bleach solution and let it dry it is completely harmless to kids and animals. This is why zoos and day cares use bleach so much.

I know Target carries a line called Method. It's enviromentally safe and the items are non- toxic. I haven't used the wipes for the cage, I have a steam cleaner, but I use their multi-purpose cleaner and it works well.

If you use bleach, please just note that licensed daycares and schools are legally required to use the dilluted solution of 1/10 as mentioned above for cleaning any surface that children come in contact with. Higher ratios of bleach are considered toxic to children, animals, and big folks, especially if the item cleaned will be mouthed in any way, even after it dries because the residue remains. This is why I recommend rinsing after bleach application of a Clorox wipe...because I'm not sure if the wipe has the oral safety concentration or is higher. My guess would be that all Clorox products are higher unless notated. As Gliderbuff originally pointed out, there is a warning on there. I can't provide any personal experience based information about what ratios a zoo would use, but keep in mind that a zoo enclosure is typically aired out in the open and hosed off thoroughly as well. Yep, it's the Clorox Anywhere spray...thanks...forgot the name! I have my staff use this spray at our facility and I am hoping to try it on my glider cage for the first time when I do my next cleaning. I will probably be lazy and buy it from the ready-made bottle...but again, it can be done at home quite inexpensively, too.

I use the method wipes from target. They work well. I also use vinegar and water mix. I'm sorry, but I just think the clorox wipes are too harsh.

Gossamer, I am going to try those Method wipes! I have seen that line before, but I did not realize the line was natural/non- toxic! I typically try to stay clear of chemical cleaners in my house, as I, too feel they are very harsh and I don't like breathing them in myself, let alone putting the fumes "out there" for the animals.

I spray the cage w/non- toxic enzyme based cleaner, let sit for 30 minutes, rinse w/spray. If I can't put the cage outside I use Nature's Miracle, Anti-ickypoo or vinegar and water. If my gliders are healthy, I believe they only need a clean cage, not a disinfected one. But I only wash my hands w/regular soap, not antibacterial soap.

Dee, you're the smartest one of the bunch...just like antibiotics do inside our bodies, antibacterial soaps kill ALL the bacteria on our hands including beneficial components. Not only this, but lots of studies have killed the *hype* of antibacterial soaps. Unless you are cleaning a wound, dealing constantly with germ-riddled public folks, have handled a sketchy item or animal, and/or are performing a medical procedure where bacteria could be harmful to someone, regular soap in not only "enough," but it's better for you. Yes, that goes for even after you use the restroom. I'm going to try Nature's Miracle. My brother used to swear by that stuff for his cat stuff.

I actually saw Nature's miracle wipes at Petco the other day. They might be a good option.

I have used the Lysol wipes for years without any problems. They are fine to use as long as any residue is dry before animals get on the cage. I clean when they are sound asleep. lol

I have used the clorox anywhere and have not had any problem with it. I product tested the Clorox Anywhere before it was out on the market and have used it ever since. I also use it on my dog crates, the kitchen, throughout the house etc....

I just use a washcloth and hot water when I'm wiping down cages. I use the wipes to clean the cage pans, though. However, I am going to go check out the natures miracle wipes!!! I love the spray to clean the cages with. I found some cleaner for dog and cats, that is what I use for the floor in their room, and to clean the wheels in the dishwasher, it has the enzymes in it to kill the odor. However, in a pinch, lemon juice works just as well for that. I can't stand vinegar.
