I find my gliders really smelly.
Does anybody else find them stinky?

I haven't seen my gliders for 2 weeks as I am away for work but my mom is looking after them.

She changes the pouch every 3 days and wips down the entire cage 1 x week.
Im thinking there wodent wheel is the problem as it soaks up all the pee!!!

But I use clorox wips and then I wash it with water after so theres no chemicals on it.

But im switching there diet to see if that will help a bit because they are on "darcy diet" and Im not fond of it.

Do you have males? If you do then you are probably smelling their scent glands. You can have them neutered and the scent glands will go away. Ash

Unneuterd males tend to be very smelly. I have one neutered and on that isn't and he smells really bad.
Never wash all you glider items at once spread it out so they don't feel the need to "mark their territory"
Good luck!

Is it a pronounced bald spot? If so, then he isn't neutered. Turn him over and check his belly - if he has a "full" scrotal sac, he isn't neutered. If neutered, there either won't be a sac at all OR it will be flat like a deflated balloon...

I have 11 gliders in my glider room.................The best investment I ever made was an air purifier/ionizer..............there is NO odor in that room whatsoever!!!!!!! Cora

Cora, what kind of purifier do you use? I have all my gliders in one room now, with two rainbow rainmate purifiers... I'm thinking about putting the other two in there to help out. I wash my cages every weekend, The hard toys get washed every week as well, the fleece toys get alternated with the pouches every other week. (One week i do the toys, the next the pouches) I do still notice some odor in there. I have recently started doing the trays every other week, and that seems to help quite a bit. You may be washing too often, causing them to over scent...

About the biting...check out some of the bonding links for help with that.

They can tend to bite but I've found mostly they just nip and it's not as deep as a hamster bite. If you are handling them like hamsters that may be the reason for the bites...unless they are very bonded gliders do not like being scooped up or held in your hand like a hamster...they don't like being enclosed. My gliders who are most bonded will tolerate it but they don't really "like" it per se.

If your glider is sinking its teeth in and holding on, then you have a pitbull biter. You may want to start a different thread in behavior on that for some advice. Those types of biters take more work and patience to stop the biting.

Best of luck! smile

we agree with Laura.....we alternate how we clean because we noticed when we did it all at the same time, then it seems like they went around marking everything in sight...where do they get all that fluid.....lol
