I just took a genetics class last spring so all this is very interesting, great post! Do you think that some of these colors could be due to a precursor? Let me give an example using mice when homozygous recessive masks the expression of a gene. Had to dig an example out of my notes. This is the only way I can explain what I am talking about, sorry. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
There will be two different alleles, A and B:
Rolar mice precursor--B-->Black--A-->agouti
Without the dominant B allele the outcome would be an albino mouse.
Possible Genotypes: A_B_ = agouti mouse (9) A_bb = albino mouse (3) aaB_ = black mouse (3) aabb = albino mouse (1) The blank(_) means that it doesn't matter whether this particular gene is dominant or recessive.
The phenotype ratio would be 9 agouti:4 albino:3 black.
There are also cases where the dominant allele masks the expression of a gene and the homozygous recessive of either gene masks the expression of the other gene. If anyone would like examples of these just ask, dont want to bore anyone. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Me too, lol. But, that is some interesting info, I just don't know enough about genetics to apply much of that to gliders. I would like to take a class that would help me learn more about these sort of things <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I guess the biggest reason why genetic info is so hard to come by is that gliders haven't been bred in controlled environments like lab mice or chinchillas so there haven't been such large populations with which to track all of the details and patterns of heredity. It's kind of a double edged sword because on one hand I'd like to know, but on the other, I don't want to see larger amounts of lab bred(or more and more normally bred) gliders. We should all just chip in some money and just get all of the variations genetically analyzed <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumb.gif" alt="" />

It is a tough situation. I would love to know the genetics behind the colors, but it takes a large number of breedings and I don't want to see any gliders in a lab like big ern said.
