Someone gave me a glider(named TAZ) about a month ago. Taz has had a hard life once adopted he was played with a few months. then not played with for over a year. He did not have the right diet, or any conpaninship. When given to us Taz was mutalating hemself.Took to vet and they cut off his penis and cut out his balls. left the sack. We have worked and worked with him to make him a calmer glider but nothing is working. Since Sunday Taz has mutalated his stomach and penis area it is all red and swollan very nasty looking the vet said there is nothing else they can do for him. I DO NOT WONT HIM TO DIE. we have had gliders for three years know. PLease Help. lklad42101@hotmail.com

First of all you need to get him into an E-colar ASAP Here is a web site to go to for instructions. E-collar Instructions Second, he needs to be seen by a vet who will treat him with antibiotics, if he is not treated he will get worse and possibly die.

check out this post, and the linkshttp://www.sugarglider.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/69788/page/1#Post69788This sounds VERY BAD! Do you have a pic of exactly what he has done? Is he bleeding? First things first though, DO THE E COLLAR!! Keep us posted! Also I would register so we know your name, it's free and only takes a moment.

I agree with Linda (LSardou) Get Taz into an E-Collar or wrap him like a burrito to keep him from hurting himself further and get him to a vet ASAP. He'll need antibiotics for any infection & medication to control the pain. He will also need to STAY in the collar until he is completely healed.

I just wanted to add that most likely the reason why he has been so diffucult to handle is because he has been in pain. I am so so sorry to hear this, and that the vet has not helped at all. Is there anyother vet in your area. Please register, this way we will be able to give you more assistance in locating a vet, or even a experience glider owner could possibly live near you that might be able to help. Taz is in my prayers.....

Baytril and Torb are medications than can only be given to you by a vet. The health and hygeine area is located on the main forum.

Baytril is an antibiotic that is often used for infecitons. You would need to get it from your vet since the dose is based on size/weight. Torb is short for Torbuterol (spelling?) is is often given for pain, again you would need to get it from your vet to get the correct dosage for Taz's size.

I would not go back to that vet, I can not see a vet letting you leave with him like that, and not giving him meds for pain at least, did he reccomend putting him down? Where do you live?, we can help you to find another vet.

Please see another vet as soon as you can, I'm sure a different vet will do something even if this one is not willing. Do you have him in an e-collar?

Is this Rich I spoke with this morning in NY? I got stuck in CA-cancelled flight-but I'll have your ecollars out in the am (I get in at 9:30 on a 6am flight, and will send after I get home)
As I said on the phone-get him in a collar-doesn't matter if it's perfect-OR hold him like a burrito 24/7 until you can-but do NOT let him do any more damage to himself.
B...I am at the Ayres Hotel & Suites Ontario, CA, convention center (courtesy of Delta Airlines---and NO I didn't bring my gliders-any of them-to CA)...and the number I can be reached at is 909-390-7778 room 1101 between now and 5am. If this is Rich, I can tell you what we went over-my cell battery died only a few min. ago, and since my husband ran over my charger with the vacuum just before I left Mon. morning, I can't recharge until I'm back in UT.
I know the SMs are hard to start-but it does get easier. I am really worried about this little one! My internet time has now cost as much as I can afford, so I need to log off-someone PLEASE let me know how this little one is doing-I'll be back in my room in about 20-30 min (need to find some dinner)...
The owner, Rich, I spoke to from NY is why I just spent almost $10 on internet, since I haven't heard, and hoped there was a post.
If you're not-B is one of the best (she helped with my first glider, a cloacal SM, RIKER, and saved his life) so listen to and follow her directions.
Jen/Colin Commander Riker 12 16 02-10 04 12 you will be FOREVER missed Sinbad, Gabby, Baby, and Alley

Thank you all for all the help. I hope that taz can get threw this. I have 2 other sets of gliders that we play with and take everywhere with us. I would have a houseful of this little wonders. In the last 3 months I have been given two gliders and Taz and Ling Ling. I have seperated these two because I am afraid of ling ling helping him out of the e-collar.
