My Suggi Heidi is 7 and has stopped eating :o( All I can get in her is Gerber Grape Juice. Her ears have drooped and the only time she is awake and out of her pouch is when I am holding her and getting her to drink. She turns her head when I hold anything else out to her; even chopped up mealies.
She is at the vet now. I am waiting for a call back.
Has anyone experienced this?
They said I might have to make "the final decision"

Thank you... I am so sad right now. Her mate Herman passed last September and she has been different since then. At first I thought she was just a little depressed.... Now that we are on day 6 though....I don't know what could be wrong. I had to fight w/ the vet to take her "B/c I didn't have an appointment"

I wish the vet would hurry up and call me :o(
My parents will meet me at the vet as my husband works out of town; it would take him hours to get here....
I hate sitting here at work when my mind is across town w/ her... :o(

oh noooo, i am so sorry to hear that!

is this a vet who sees sugar gliders? or have they seen any of yours before?

if not they might not realize how bad it can be if a glider doesnt eat, or whomever you spoke to (if it wasnt the doctor) might not have even informed the vet that its an emergency. i worked at a vet before and some of the people there would disregard certain "emergencies" because they just thought the owner was over reacting. pls keep us updated frown

hug2 I'm so sorry to hear that your Heidi is'nt feeling good. I sure hope that they will look at her soon. I would call and explain to them how urgent it is to have her looked at expecially if she isn't even drinking on her own.
Please keep us posted, and I will keep her in my prayers. heart

This is a vet who treat gliders and has seen mine many of times. I can't believe they are being so non-chalant about this. I even wrote out that it had been almost 6 days since she had eaten and she doesn't even drink unless I hold her to the dish w/ juice in it!!
HEELLLLOOO Does that not seem important to anyone else?!?!?!

You may have to go down there and force the issue. If these pics help-use them-it's what a dying glider looks like...and I've been there 8 times. It's my Gimli (his body language) about 4 hours before he died.

http://www.sugarglider.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/77384/page/1#Post77384

I'm on the way to my own vet right now with some of mine, but I'll check when I get home. Trust me, getting in their face is much more effective than on the phone-they can't hang up on you.

All my prayers for your little one. hug2

I'm praying for you and Heidi. Being at the vet in person will probably help, like Jen said. Let us know what happens when you know anything hug2

Heidi looked like that last night; she slept in my hand but it was like she didn't realize she was still in my hand...
I honestly didn't think she would make it through the night but this morning I went to wake her up and she popped up and took off running; the first time she's moved on her own since Friday.... that scared me too b/c I know that burst didn't come from feeling better if she still didn't have food in her.
I thought about taking a picture but I didn't have the heart to remember that moment of her sleeping in my hand... The thoughts of Herman passing are still etched in my mind...every detail runs through my mind every day.

It's almost 1:00 and they STILL haven't looked at her yet!!!! She's been there since 7:30 this morning!!!
I told the lady that Heidi better not die before they look at her b/c they don't understand what an urgent situation this is!!!!
I brought her in in her pouch and a ferret back pack so it wasn't like she had water and stuff in there w/ her. I said someone at least needed to make sure she was breathing and give her a dish of water/juice!

Is there anyway that you can get over there to the vet? You said that you took her in at 7:30 this morning, this is an awful long time for them not to have done anything yet.
Please keep us posted. I will say a prayer that everything is alright. hug2

You probably need to just go down there and get in their face. It's much harder for them to come up with an excuse or to say no when you're right there looking them in the eye.

The fact that they haven't even seen her is soo upsetting cry I hope she makes it.

I had a similar experience also...mine was caused by depression from a lost mate. She just lost the will to live and refused to eat. I hope this isn't the cause for you because the only way of making it better would be to get another glider, and at this point, because of her condition, it would be WAY too stressful.

But I hope the best for you and hang in there. hug2 Let us know what the doctor says.

How long did it take before the depression set in??? It has been 9 long months for the 2 of us since Herman died.
It got worse b/c we were closing on our house and moving 3 days later so she was uprooted from all that she knew.
I was worried it was depression setting in.
She has put on weight and almost stopped playing with me all together. :o( I know she misses him terribly... she always beat up other gliders other than him so I didn't think she would accept a new mate; especially at her age.
:o(

Sometimes you just have to go and sit in the waiting room like Jen said (at least then you can hold her while you wait). Is there any other vet that can see her in town? I wish I could tell you how to make them listen to you, but being pushy is sometimes the only way. I hope you find something out soon.

I talked to the actual Dr. herself. She is healthy except for being old; dehydrated and not eating. Teeth are okay too. They have given her water and she comes out to see them but not making any noises at them...
They are keeping her overnight and are getting baby food for her to eat and will water it down.
They said if she doesn't perk up.... you know the rest.
