She was bouncing around this morning and completely gorging on food! She was making a horrible mess and has food from her mouth to her tummy but that was a sight for sore eyes! She was diving in a pile of rope and popping up in different spots and diving back down in it like she was playing "peek-a-boo" and hopping all over the place! I think I'll have to clean her up some tonight but to see her like that was amazing; even the vet was excited to hear about her progress! :o)

That's great news!! I'm so happy she's doing better. Just continue to moniter, and a vet check in a week or so might be a good idea, just to make sure she's alright. Great job by you for being so persistant at the vets and keeping up with her needs.
yeah she has to go back in a week and i will continue her meds and canivore care until i know for sure she is getting enough food on her own but what a vast improvement!!!

She's taken a horrible turn for the worst. I called the vet... she ran into the wall yesterday; i thought it was just a fluke like she wasn't paying attenion. Tonight her eyes are cloudy; I found her asleep on the floor; I thought she was already gone but she did pick her head up when I picked her up. I got her to eat but she was stumbling around like she couldn't see well and she smelled funny like.... i can't even describe it; I've never smelled it before; but it was a bad smell. The vet wants her ASAP in the morning.... if she is still with me. I have no idea what could be wrong; it's a complete 180 from where I had gotten her this past week. She doesn't even look the same... no crabbing, no noise what so ever. I have her sleeping right now. Her hair is all greasy... I don't understand.... all in 1 day??? Has anyone seen this???? Will she make it through the night? No emergency vets will take her (tried before) I have no choice but to wait until morning.... I called my dad since he knows lots about animals and he said it sounds like distemper but the only time she was around any animals was the 2 days she was at the vet before the 4th of July.... My dogs aren't allowed in her room. I just don't understand; we made so much progress on her.
I'm so sorry to hear this! Keep your little one on you as much as possible until you get her in. It will help to comfort and support her. Offer her favorite drinks and treats to encourage her to eat. Fluids are the first in importance-keep her hydrated. If you can call and see if a vet will relent and see her-it's worth a try...they can't say worse than no, and one may say yes.
I'd also give Suz a call and see if there's anything she can help with where the eyes are concerned, her Pika was blind. Her number is 440-953-0904. I don't even know where to start on eyes.
Please keep us updated as you can.

I just went in there; got her to eat some corn; it was the only thing she would except... looked at her right eye; dry; cloudy and blue... took another wiff.... smells like wet clothes maybe... musty??? she is sitting her her bed munching; will keep that up tonight and see what happens.... doesn;t make sense.... she was even already on antibiotics....
Whatever antibiotic she is on may not be the right one for whatever is going on. Or something else may be at work, either would indicate a medication change is needed.
I have no experience with eyes-but Suz went through health issues and blindness (cloudy eyes) with Pika, and may be able to help where many of us cannot. Have you tried calling? If you want to PM your number, I can have her call you, if that would be easier for you.
I wish I knew more to tell you. That she's willing to eat is a good sign. Keep her still and calm as possible. Love on her and baby her. And call Suz (or let me know)

I might call her but I'm afraid no answer will help tonight since no emergency vet will take her; I am going to be in and out with her all night and watch her.... I just hurt... did a lot of walking alone and thinking about what is best for her; Hope the vet has a good positive answer for me in the AM. Just keep us in your thoughts.
okay thanks... maybe... hopfully its minor and fixable w/ a different med... poor little thing... I am just numb now; just focusing on task at hand to keep her comfy till morning when we make yet another trip.... i thought we were out of the woods.... not just yet. :o(
i'm so very sorry she took a turn for the worst, definately keep a close eye on her and if there's somebody, like suz who can help then i'd definately talk to her! i wish you the best for the little gal and i sure hope she makes it through the night, prayers and being sent your way!
There are a lot of prayers being said for Heidi She just has to make it she has made it this far. Your love for her is very profound. And in my heart she feels your love for her. hugs for you and heidi.
My Pika developed cataracts a couple of years ago. The changes were pretty quick and dramatic at that time. She had already been treated for HLP and then suddenly came down with an eye infection. Her eyes were suddenly cloudy and one was bulging from her head. Veterinary examination determined that she had a systemic infection with secondary glaucoma. Treatment included eye drops and oral antibiotics. Sadly, the cataract did develop and caused her to go completely blind, but it was gradual. Have your vet check for glaucoma and although she's already been on Baytril for a week, possibly change to a different type of antibiotic (such as Clavamox or Cephalexan)... I'll try to find my pictures of Pika's eyes when she was going through this... I'll post them if I can find them.
