purjo, Im so verry sorry to hear about your glider. there are a lot of self mutilating gliders out there. (gliders who bite and chew at themselves...) I dont think your vet really knew what to do in that situation...Im not sure how it is in Sweden, maybe they dont know much about sugar gliders? Im sure more people will be on shortly to explain to you why this happens...Im very sorry to hear about him though *hugs*

I have heard self-mutalation is not that common. What is the truth on this matter? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I'm so sorry for your loss. No, self-mutilation isn't that common, but because it is such a serious issue you do hear alot about it. There are lots of reasons why gliders mutilate, sometimes its as simple as a urinary tract infection. Other times no cause can be found. Please don't feel guilty about putting him to sleep -- you took him to a vet as soon as you noticed the problem, and did the best you could. That you'd had all your gliders for six years, shows that you are a great glider mom. Once again, I'm sorry for your loss. ~Lynn
