Hey! I'm Becky and I live just north of Bowling Green, KY. Looks like there are several other people in this area. I don't have a glider yet, but I'm hoping to be able to get one shortly. Just wanted to say hi!

I'm not sure where I'm getting one from yet. I'd like to find one that needs a new home instead of buying from a breeder, but nothing is set in stone. Any suggestions?

Hi again Becky. I will tell you that it is very hard to find one for adoption. I had troulbe just getting one from a breeder. Has Troy emailed you back yet? He sells at a really good price. I know of a few other breeders if he can't help you but I don't know any up for adoption right now.

Thanks for the link, but that's a little more than I want to spend to "adopt" a glider.
I'm sure I'll find something within a reasonble distance (I don't mind a little drive) soon enough. I'm in no big hurry.
Thanks again, Becky

New KY poster here,
I am in a tiny town in Russell County KY. I do all my shopping in Pulaski County that is were I got one of my gliders. I think this part of the country wouldn't care if you had a elephant, no laws that I know of!
Hi to all you fellow Blugrass glider family members!

I am a new sugar glider owner in Morehead Kentucky! I have a few friends who have sugar gliders too! I am curious about laws on owning gliders here? Anyone know? My sister in law is a vet in Waddy Ky. Anyone sell supplies near where I live? Wanda

I can't help but post here even though in March I moved to North Carolina - I grew up in northern KY. Lived in Kenton and Boone county and am familiar with the area. There was, maybe still is, an exotic pet store locally owned and operated in Erlanger off of Dixie Hwy that sold gliders -- www.exoticpa.com I think, they were very nice but I haven't been there since I moved. Also own a cabin down in Burnside by Lake Cumberland, right at the south fork in the river, outside of Somerset and about 10 exits down from Berea. I miss KY!

Hello! I am in Nicholasville, but i'm originally from Somerset. I have a 10 week oop female. When I bought her I thought she was hand tamed, but she wasn't. I don't have the the skill or time to hand tame her, so I'm trying to adopt her out to a good, loving home for $150. This is a great price for her. I would like to adopt an older suggie that is hand tamed. I love her dearly, but she won't even let me touch her and since I'm so inexperienced with gliders, she needs a better home. anyone interested should email me at rhonda.bingham@ky.gov, or call me at 859-881-1637 or 606-305-9491. I am willing to drive to deliver, within a reasonable distance!

I am willing to drive to deliver, within a reasonable distance! I meant to email you back and haven't had a chance yet. Sorry! Have you tried the tent time yet? That really works wonders on the bonding process! I felt like Scrat was never going to bond to me but it just seems like it takes a long time because you want it to happen so bad. There are many different things you can try. The things that worked best for me is carrying Scrat in a bonding pouch, using scent patches, and tent time. I wont lie it did take a lot of hard work and it was very time consuming but in the end having a sweet spoiled suggie baby is worth it. I will give you some helpful advice on getting an older one. Alot of times (not always) people sell or give the older ones away because they don't have time for them. Hence they have probably never bonded to their owner or been tamed down. Also even with an older glider who has been bonded before may still take some work bonding to you. Just be careful when you adopt or purchase an older glider. Maybe spend an hour a day for a few days with the glider before purchasing it. Some owners will let you do this. This way you have a small idea of the glider's personality. Just do what best fits you. I prefer a glider who takes work. I know that sounds crazy but I like that rewarding feeling you get when you've worked on something. Now I have a friend who prefers hers to already be tame. She wants something she can cuddle on right from the start! I can't blame you or her though, it is really hard when you bring home your glider and feel like they hate you in the beginning. lol If you decide to sell your baby girl good luck with everything. I would buy her but I have a male and I don't want babies. I'm getting him neutered soon but it will be a while. If you decide to keep her, stay in touch with me and I'll try to help you as best as I can with advice.

We get busy, that's okay! I actually did try tent time, but she stayed huddled in a corner every single time. She hears me near her cage, and she starts crabbing. I wonder if I'm petting her too soon? I have done everything you've mentioned. I hold her through the pouch and fold it down so I can get to her, and I pet her. She crabs, and doesn't act like she's happy, but she doesn't try to bite. Should I stop that, and just do the hand feeding until she comes to me? I also think she likes my 9 year old. Whenever she hears her voice, she calms down and comes out of her pouch to investigate. (see my posting about chaos and bonding/taming). I have two from a lady in Indiana who doesn't have time to devote to hers anymore, they are about 10 mos old and I'm going to see them this weekend. Hopefully it will work out, and I can introduce them to Bingo and learn how to handle the suggies with them and practice techniques for Bingo. We'll definitely stay in touch.

I live in Campbell County. I've had one sugar glider for about 6 weeks and the other for one week. We also have two dogs, two guinea pigs and three kids (children, not goats). glad to see so many from Kentucky. Was starting to wander since it was so hard to find a vet in the area. Have a great day, all!
