OUCHIEEEEE! Is all I can say right now. My joey's that I am hand raising have started to bite constantly.. crazy What can I do? Is there a way to get them to detach from my finger/hand? I know with my older gliders I would just pssst at them and they would stop. Any help would be great as my husband is helping me hand feed them and said he won't if they don't stop biting him tounge I need all the help I can get right now as it is like having twin babies that eat none stop crazy

This may be a silly question but are you washing your hands before you handle them? Gliders have an acute sense of smell and if they get a trace of something they will try to taste it.

Not a silly question at all. Yes I wash my hands before and after each time i hold them. I also haven't changed lotions or anything like that. They will bite even when they have been fed and are full.

It sounds like they are just being playful at your fingers expense. Years ago I had to hand raise 5 puppies and once those eyes were open and they were running around, I had no skin from the knees down. cry They would bite me so hard they drew blood and they were playing. Hopefully they will grow out of it soon like my pups did. grin

Joeys that are being hand-raised oft-times nip & nibble at the hands that feed them... this is because when they are with their parents, they will latch onto their mother's teat and suckle, even when they are full - as if it's a pacifier. When being handfed, there's nothing for them to suckle on, but they still have the instinct to do so. Understand that they are not trying to actually bite you, but are trying to find something to suckle on. You can try to wrap them in a piece of fleece so that they nip at the fleece instead of your hands...

No, they don't, because they find what they're looking for and aren't getting frustrated...

Do you have any suggestions on how to get them to let go? They bite and then wont let go. Any suggestions?

Try distracting them with a feather or a small piece of fleece. If they're latching on, I'd really try to hold them with a piece of fleece instead of in your bare hands... Sorry you're having continued problems with them... hug2

Oh I love them so much and we are really enjoying them even though we are having issues. It is mainly the girl who was rejected first that will bite and not let go. Whoever has her will have her wrapped in fleece and she just wiggles and gets close to your fingers or whatever and just bites. I have tried the psst noise even though I was trying not to do that noise since they are so little but that didn't even work. It is so weird. I thought the boy would be the one to bite as he feed off his mommy longer but I guess the girl misses it more smirk I am sure she will stop just wanted to know what to do to get her off as it hurts almost worst then my adult sugar's bite. hehehe Thank you suz for all your help with them. You have helped me a ton! grin
