OK, so I have the satellite style ones from Jen, but then I've seen mention of the shotglass style ones, and then here Shawna mentions a foam one? I'm confused, lol. Is there one that's better for some things, but not for others? Should I have all 3 styles in my emergency kit, just in case?
Becki, I will post a picture later on of the foam one. I like it because it doesn't hamper them eating. I've never used one of the other kind, and I've only used this one a couple of times, for a couple of days at a time.

Shawna, when you post the pic can you tell us where to buy one please? I've been trying to find where to buy one for my emergency kit but can't find one.
Becki...actually, you have the shotglass style ones. I've JUST started offering the satellite ones, with cautions-if they aren't adjusted right a cloacal SM could still get to himself or herself (see attachment). The 'foam' collars are brand new, and also called a niche collar, and minkasmom is the one who came up with that, if I'm not mistaken. The name is based on the shape when it's on the glider.
Here's what a satellite collar not done right can result in:

Thanks for the correction Jen I just knew I had them in there, lol..
What is the difference between the shotglass and the satellite?
The foam one, is that the one Denise used for Willy Wonka that looks similar to a human neck brace?
Also, another question on collars - for the gliders with fat necks (I affectionately call Wiggles fat head, lol), is there a way to make the collar fit better, or, do you need to adjust the pattern to make it bigger around for them?
I've actually adjusted the template to make it bigger for that reason...you can cut one down if too big, but not add materials. I'd be happy to sent you a couple of the larger ones.
Here's a picture of Riker in his shotglass style..compare that to the above pic and you'll see the difference in shape.
And yes, the niche or foam one is the one that looks like a neck brace. I haven't even played around with that design yet.

Thank You Jen, for all the explanations and the pics I ordered my collars about a year ago, and Wiggles was still a little baby then he sure has grown!
Here's a couple more pics, how they look OFF the glider. The top one is the Shotglass style, the bottom one the Satellite-hopefully they show up okay-it's hard to get pics this way with the transparent plastic (and I'm usually neater on the work, lol-that satellite didn't go out because I couldn't get the moleskin to cooperate):

Here are a couple of pics of the foam one I get from my vet. The foam almost looks like the stuff you use on pipes outside in the winter. The vet always covers the outside with tape, so that they can't shred the foam. The first two are on Tucker, front and side, the last is just the collar itself.

Hey, Shawna thats looks like an awesome idea. How well does it work compared to the shotglass and satelite style? I am wanting to put several different ones in my emergency kit. You just never know when you will need one.
Shawna, if you could get one of those and send it to me, I'm happy to pay for it and shipping, next time you get a chance. I eventually want to carry all things special needs, health, and safety and that most definitely qualifies! Then I can run it by my vet, too. Nice looking! I can see why poor Cooper would find it uncomfortable right now, tho. If you do need to go with a collar for him, I think the traditional shotglass or satellite with the molefoam would be less abrasive to the chest in his case. You can also make a satellite a bit big, and turn it backward so that instead of going around his head, it goes down-keeping his head away from his chest...I remember one used that way once.

That is pipe insulation and they cut a piece out of it and then tape it together. I have used these on birds who feather pick. They work great on birds and seem much more comfortable then the other kind. The bad thing is you must watch them carefully as after a few days the foam squishes down from them moving their heads up againt it.
I hope these work out as they are much easier to make and use.
Have a Good Day Brenda & Mr. Magoo
Friendly Reminder please have an e-collar ready before you need it......

I've never (Thank the Good Lord above) had to have one on for more than a couple of days, but it is really easy to change them out. Just be careful when you do the tape on the outside, not to tape their fur, then it has to be cut off of the fur. Jen, I can send some to you, PM me your address. Guys, if you do this, use tape that won't shred into strings, otherwise you have a whole other set of problems.
