My little rescue girl with almost no teeth. I noticed the last couple days her face has been slightly swollen again...not as bad as it has been in the past, so had intended to make her a vet appointment for Monday. Last night she didn't eat-even her favorite blended peas with corn, and that was concerning. She was due for a nail trim and I got her out yesterday at 1...she didn't struggle at ALL...which is NOT like her. She almost acted like she was going to have a catatonic seizure like she used to but it wasn't the same...sort of between that and lethargy, but not quite either. I crushed a yogurt drop into powder for her (her usual after trim treat) and she didn't even finish it, and took an unusually long time...then some dripped back out of her mouth...PINK. I can't tell where she's bleeding from tho. Then she curled up and went to sleep. I was thinking her mouth was just sore, and gave her a small dose of Torb. I got up after a 4 hour nap to check on her, and she was in her wheel with her nose flat on it. She sort of glanced at me when I talked to her-her ears flat on her head. I got her out in a pouch...her nose blue and she was clicking when she breathed! She was also starting the climbing behavior of a dying glider and I really thought I was going to lose her by 9 pm. I've got her on Clindamycin, and a call into the vet. After meds, a couple hours of TLC, and being held against me, and getting some food in her, her ears are up and the clicking stopped, but she's still dreadfully weak. I'm having her glider sat tonight while I'm at work. She's still bleeding when she eats from one of her 9 remaining teeth-hopefully the vet will be able to tell which-and she hangs on until I can get her in (the ER vet would be useless here-he couldn't do more than I am). Her nose was more pink but still has a bluish tinge around the bottom edge, and her ears are up at least. Please send some prayers for her-this little girl's life has been a nightmare, despite the good times, she came from severe neglect and has had a lot of health problems. She's barely tolerative of being handled at all, but I still love her as much as any of my others.

I talked to Dr. Harris (who said just call and she'll meet me at her office if needed-I LOVE my vet!)- or she goes in tomorrow morning. I ran and got an aquarium for an incubator at her direction this morning, working on getting the temp to 90 degrees and raising the humidity in there. When I got home this morning, Lyah had been in her cage for ONLY half an hour unattended, was clinging to the side of the cage and ICE COLD-she was literally radiating coldness and you didn't have to touch her to feel it. It took nearly two hours on a heating pad on low to bring her temp back up close to normal. She did perk up a bit as her temp came up-sick gliders do NOT regulate their temperature well. And ate some blended peas/corn and drank quite a bit of gliderade. She is slightly dehydrated, so pushing fluids and I'll put them down by syringe if necessary. She is nowhere near out of the woods yet, but she's hanging in there. All the prayers/thoughts are welcome

Oh, and whatever is going on is involving her top front teeth (I got a better look in there this morning)...they were discolored months ago but seemed to be doing fine except for that...now it looks like the gums are possibly receded and her face is a little more swollen than it was last night. And her nose is really blue-I just looked again. Think I need to call the vet back.

I'm back. She's at the vet in an oxygen tank with labored breathing. Good news I guess is that there's no fluid in her lungs for now, but the vet has lasix standing by in case and a bronchiodilator. Her breathing is so hard though vet couldn't hear her heart over it. She perked up a little after being in there a couple minutes, but she's been going up and down so much it's hard to say. If she makes it I can check on her in the morning. I left her favorite peas and gliderade with her-only things she's had any interest in today. Her hydration was good. This is only the second time I've ever left one of my gliders at a vet, and I trust Dr. Harris completely, but it still scares the wits out of me. She needs the one thing I don't have though-Oxygen.

Lyah would do ANYTHING for peas. I've never seen a glider so obsessed with a food...she will about refuse to eat unless she has her peas first. She'll look in the dish, if they're not there give you a truly nasty look, then sit down and wait, staring at you, until they appear I know something is wrong with those teeth, I could see it-it looks like the gums are receded (or the teeth loose? they look longer than they should...it's hard to describe) and there's a space that shouldn't be in between...not very big, but there... but she isn't in any shape to examine her closer, and wouldn't survive much stress or any anesthesia at the moment. The meds are working-she was really trying to die yesterday, but the roller coaster started with the antibiotic/torb...but they take time, and in the meantime she needs supportive care to get her through to where she's strong enough for an exam/treatment. If we stress her into a seizure now, nothing else will matter. So supportive care and try and get the infection under control...THEN we deal with the teeth. Dr Harris said she knew I'd likely be calling back after I described what was happening-so did I but I was hopeful that just maybe she'd start pulling out out it. No such luck. Lyah was so bad on the way down I had to keep checking to make sure she was still breathing-she rode in an open cage pouch in my jacket all splayed out flat with her eyes 7/8th of the way closed and breathing hard. vet was surprised I got there (about 50 miles), in just under 30 minutes, lol, particularly since we're just over massive storms that dumped close to 5 feet of snow in the last 48 hours...roads aren't in the best shape right now. So at this point her teeth are secondary. Her nose was going from gray-blue to blue before the oxygen...wherever the bugs are they're hitting her hard and fast. I just hope we got things going in time. And at 4 1/2 years old this is Myst and Lyah's first time ever to be separated. Myst is nervous, crabby, and missing her sister. Edit: and details are escaping me...that's what I get for so little sleep in the last 2 days. The lasix (sp?) would be to help clear fluid if it develops in her lungs...so far the vet can't hear any. The bronchiodilator would help open up the bronchial sacs so she can maybe get more air with less effort.
