This is the second time Dixie has gotten her foot caught in her pouch snags. It's made of felt (I know now that it was a bad material) and it had some strings hanging off. She somehow got her foot inside one of the loops and twisted her little foot in there. I got a towel over her b/c she was biting the heck out of me, and I cut the material free from her foot. Poor baby was really scared and probably hurting. I was worried about it cutting off circulation to her foot and causing damage, but both times she ran around in the cage and climbed like nothing was wrong. Thank goodness their little feet are so flexible or she would have been in some serious trouble. I gave her a couple peanuts to soothe her yesterday after the traumatic experience and immediately threw that stupid pouch away. She has a smaller one that is like new that she's sleeping in now. I'm working on getting a new pouch made out of non-snag materials. I might even do the flower pot house like I saw on this board.

Just sharing this so other glider owners are aware of the dangers of picking the wrong material for pouches. I lucked out that she didn't get seriously hurt.

I'm glad she's okay... I didn't know felt was dangerous. Thanks for letting us know!

Now that I think of it, it's really not felt, but that soft, brushed flannel-type material, much like what a dog bed liner would be made of. It has long threads throughout the material. I just called it felt. Real felt doesn't have long threads and is just pressed into sheets.

I'm glad she's ok!!! We do have to be really careful about what we let them sleep in and play with for reasons like that. You probably already know this, but fleece is great, doesn't ravel, and is really snuggly and warm, and especially good for the winter time when it might be a bit chilly.
