I took a sugar glider from some people I know who were going to let it die or put it to sleep because it had been injured. Apparently, some woman was mad and grabbed it really hard after it somehow escaped. Now it can't move either of its hind legs. It can just drag itself around by the front ones. It is only four months old and we have been able to get it to eat and drink but i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get free medical attention for it. I live in pigeon forge, TN. Any advice would be appreciated since i have never owned a sugar glider before, especially not a hurt one. email me please. gina531@aol.com thanks

Here is a link of vets listed on GC as being TN vets...it does sound like you should get your glider to a vet as soon as possible:

http://www.glidercentral.net/links/pages/Vets_Database/United_States/Tennessee/index.html

Even if you can't find a glider experienced vet, I would take her to a vet anywhere at this point...any emergency vet should be able to x-ray and see if there are broken bones, and possiby give pain meds or supportive care at this point. It sounds like she may be in a lot of pain frown

At first i thought that the woman had squished part of its guts out bc i saw those pink strings hanging out of it. Now i figured out that it is a male and it has been able to pull it back in since it must be feeling better!

Oh do not give it the cold medicine. The boy needs to see a vet as soon as possible. Any vet will do in an emergency. They can contact an exotic vet for info. They are such great little ones. Please just get him to a vet and you will see once he gets better how much love they give in return for you loving and taking care of them.

First, vet. Xrays. See what EXACTLY is wrong in there. You may want to look at this thread on a permanently paralyzed glider and print and take it with you-they CAN live good lives. Also, get the little one on a good, approved diet with plenty of calcium. Here's the thread:

http://www.glidercentral.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/321786#Post321786

And PLEASE don't forget to update us!!

I hope you have been able to find a vet nearby. Thank you very much for taking this little guy in hug2 As Jen/Xfilefan said, x-rays are needed to determine the extent of the damage but he can still live a full, productive life even if the paralysis is permanent. Please continue to keep us updated on his progress hug2

If you decide you do not want to keep this little guy, please get in touch with me. I live about an hour and a half from you, in Bristol, and I would be willing to foster him until he finds a permanent home.

You can email me @ bubbles8i8@yahoo.com or PM me here on Glider Central. I have a glider knowledgeable vet who can examin and treat him.

Oh please let us know what happens! sounds likee HLP a calciul deficiency. If taken proper care of by a vet the little one could get a lot better!

Good luck!

Actually, based on the case history she gave, I doubt it is HLP. It's definitely injury-induced shakehead

Just to update:

I will be adopting this little one. dance Who knows, maybe he will be able to live with Jackie Chan someday. Wouldn't that be sweet????

I am working on a railroad to get him closer to me as I don't want to make an 18 hour drive until I am confident that Jackie Chan is "out of the woods" and fully recovering from his recent procedures.

Anyway -- this little one will be seeing a vet soon and in his forever home soon - a home where i can assure you he will never, ever again be abused!

Thanks for all of the feedback guys!!! I haven't been able to get online til now and I am overjoyed with the response I received from the GC community. I apparently got lucky and hit the best Glider site on the web! mlove He seems to be feeling a little better and is eating and climbing up his cage with his hands. I have decided to give him to Val since she has alot of experience and knowledge in this area. We are trying to figure out how to get him from Tennessee to Texas. Hopefully, I am going to be able to get me a couple of gliders in the near future and I am really excited cuz my girlfriend and I have been talking about it for a while. We love animals and we are both nocturnal so hopefully it will work out! grin thanks

Just want to add my 2 cents here:

Gina would IMO make a great suggie momma --- She has done what few would do for this little guy so far. She most likely saved his life.

I am honored to be given the priv. of being his new mommy and SOO happy that Gina saved him.

OK guys I am happy and all that the gilder will have a good home but is there anyway if a few of us chip in that she will get the sugar glider to a vet NOW I mean I'll even give me phone # and pay with ,y credit card over the phone to the vet if she will take him to one NOW. I may only 250 limit on my card but it shouldn't cost that much. However at least this would get him looked at and at least on pain meds if he is in need of them. I can n9to stand to think he is in any disconfort. he could SM too you know. Someone message me or called on my cell 906-458-3352 if I do cover but anyone in the group want s to give a little to help out let me know.
