Hi I'm new and my husbnd and I are going to be getting our first glider in a few weeks. He is 1 1/2, intact, and a rescue who was never handled by his previous owner.

My question is... will a glider bond with two people?

He is meant mostly for my husband, who found out about gliders first and has wanted one for years. I don't want to let the little guy bonded to me then find out he won't bond then with hubby. I'm just as excited as he is about the glider, but I don't want to hurt hubbys feeling by *taking away his new pets affections* type of thing.

Thanks for your time, all!

first of, welcome to GliderCentral!

ok...
Quote:

gliders are meant to be community animals so getting a single glider as a rescue is a good thing.. but getting another one as a friend is better. (they can get lonely, depressed, self mutilate and in worst case can die from it )

yes... they'll see both of you as part of their "community" as long as both of take the time and patients to become a "trusted friend"... Good Luck!

We do hope to get a female glider friend for him. First we want to get him bonded to us and nuetered. I'm so glad he can bond with both of us!!!!! No more worries about not getting any glider lovins for myself lol.

Thank you so much for your quick reply and the welcome I'm really loving GC so far.

Gliders will definately bond with two people, so long as both people put as much effort and time into the bonding. I found though that my gliders still have "favorites". Kind of like people. There are just some people that you get along better with or have a better connection with. Same thing with gliders. One of my gliders doesn't particuarly adore my boyfriend. He'll got to him for treats, or jump on him, and doesn't bite him, but if my boyfriend wakes him up then he crabs like crazy, which he doesn't do with me. So it just depends. But you should most definately bond with the gliders as well so they know you and you can enjoy them as well as your husband.

Also, your plan to bond with and neuter your male before you get your female sounds like a smart plan to me. Just be sure to spend lots of time with your glider now which I am sure you already are

I understand what you mean about not wanting to take the attention/love away...my Harley is more bonded to my hubby than she is me...and she is mine. At first this upset me but then what female wants to be with another female so I don't blame her for wanting to be with him more ...she just better recognize that he was mine first and I get last say! LOL I am getting another joey the end of next month he is only 4 weeks oop right now so we will have to wait til the end of next month but I can wait. It is so much fun just watching Harley's antics when we let her out of the cage! Enjoy your little one, congratulations, and Welcome to GC !
